Problem connecting to PC

I have a problem connecting my Epix to my PC. When i connect it, i get a USB connection sounds, "Garmin" briefly shows up in the "device manager", then it disconnects, disappears from the menu and shows up as an "unknown device".

My Garmin Edge and Forerunner connect no problem. Plus, the Epix connects fine to another PC (work one, so I cant load Express)

Any suggestions? Feels like I've scoured the internet and tried everything...

  • Hard to diagnose a problem with someone’s PC from a distance. Perhaps take a look at your system’s USB drivers or try a different USB port.

  • Thanks, but I've tried uninstalling the drivers and every USB port, and disconnecting every other USB device, to no avail.

  • contacts on Garmin watches are very 'sensitive'... one of the reasens I 'upgraded' from fenix6 to epix2
I noticed the 'connector cable' has been improved in comparison to the older one (three years old)
Also: with newer Windows versions the watch won't appear as 'usb device' (after detection) but as an 'MTP device' which you will see in Explorer as a separate device (without a drive letter)

  • Garmin sent me an extra cable, so it's not that. When I connect the the PC initially sees the device (5 seconds or so) before unseeing it, I got a "code 52 error":

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

I subsequently googled this error and tried most of the workarounds, to no avail...

  • Is the USB mode set in the system settings?

  • the Epix connects fine to another PC

So, circling back to the original post, the watch connects fine to a different PC but you can't load Express on that one correct? Can you access the watch's folders?

Do you have Express loaded on the PC that the watch will not connect to? Does Express work?

This is what I see in WIndows 11:

As noted, no drive letter just the name of the device.

I've had problems with the cables too, with some only charging works but no data connection

  • Yes, the watch connects fine (as above) to my work PC and I can access files. I can't install express on that one though. On my PC, I have express loaded and PC/Express work fine with my other garmin devices

  • Yes - tried both this and garmin mode, no luck :/

  • Additional information to my OP: My OH has a Fenix 7s, and that doesn't connect to my PC either, so I'm pretty sure it's my PC rather than watch
