Pairing Garmin Epix 2 with Keiser M3i

Hello all,

So I've been riding on my Keiser M3i indoor bike for a year.

After finishing a ride, Garmin Connect will show my indoor ride as activity, however it lacks all measurements such as distance, wattage, and cadence.

So I bought a Keiser M3i converter, as that is apparently needed for pairing.

Nevertheless I'm still having troubles pairing. The converter has successfully been paired with my bike. In my Epix it can be found as HR sensor, but not as speed/cadence.

How can I pair my Epix with my indoor bike, such that it actively tracks my distance, wattage and cadence?

Because I believe to think that without pairing, my activities have no effect on "my digital/Garmin VO2 max".

Assistance is most welcome,

Daan

  • Interested if you find a solution to this.  I have a Keiser M3i also, and it seems like a bit of an island connectivity wise.  Was working out on it last night using the Epix “Bike Indoor” workout, and while it’s able to use watch HR and time to figure out a Calories count, it’d be great if it were able to make use of RPM / Watts / etc. also.

I was hoping the Epix HR broadcast would be compatible with the M3i so I could avoid having to wear the Polar BT HR chest strap just to drive the bike’s effort metrics… does not work though as the base M3i requires a coded (Polar) HR source.  But I’d love to be able to get the Epix to “see” the Metrics the M3i broadcasts over BT (RPM, Watts) to augment the Epix HR metrics.

Honestly, I’m not too hopeful.  I suspect the M3i market share might make it difficult for Garmin to justify adding a BT/device profile to support it?  Right now the only way I’ve been able to get the metrics out of the Bike is via the Keiser M Series iOS App, again a bit of an island of data as there seems to be no way to link the App data with an external service.

Intrigued by the M3i Converter product though… will need to check that out to see how/if it improves anything for my scenario.

  • Getting specs for the transmissions seems impossible in Keisers documents.
I suspect they still use the ages old analog HR broadcast signal wich only Polar still supports. This is ancient technology.

If I understood the brochure right, the Keiser computer (display) is broadcasting via BT.
Garmin is not nice for us because they don’t support a lot of BT Sensors wich they support as ANT sensors, for example running sensors. But I thought they support BT Powermeters?

  • Daan, you need one of my - 'K2pi PRO' converters sends Power cadence and Speed over Ant+ to your multisport garmin watch (Epix does power profile) and leaves the bluetooth connection free for other apps to use like Zwift etc.

(NOTE - K2pi Only works with the non 'M-connect' keiser computer that has just been introduced last year as an upgarde/and standard on this year 20022 bikes.)

The battery powered keiser converter should provide speed and cadence only as a bluetooth sensor for your watch - It wont provide the more important 'Power' which you ideally need for garmin 'Fitness load')) theres instructions on setting up your kaiser converter up here - The Keiser converter will only pair with 1 device - so if its still paired to zwift on your tablet (force close the app) the bluetooth signal is taken and wont be available to your watch to use.

  • Cool.  Just ordered one, as it looks like a great solution.  Thanks for the pointer!
