Running on track...

I have been using a few Garmin watches in the past but never used "track run" mode.... so my question for you who use this...

Can you change "run mode" in the middle on the run to "track run" or do you have to start a new activity?

For example i want to track my whole run... so from my home to the "track" is about 2km and another 2km back home... can i just use normal "run" mode then switch to "track run" and the again to normal "run"?

  • No, it would them become a multisport activity. Only use TrackRun, it will work outside of a track. It will even calibrate the track if you are the first time there.
i would recommend to check data field and autolap settings before you start the run and check the lane number before you start running on the track. This can be changed mid activity when you press the middle left button long.

  • AFAIK you cannot change to or from track run during activity, it's a seperate activity

  • No, it would them become a multisport activity.

Multisport activity in this case doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I'd try it.

  • Nice, i didnt know that... thank you for the answer!

  • Did you ever record Multisport Activity? I did it in the mountains for hiking-climbing-hiking. I can tell you, its a PIA in that situation. You wont get proper total distance or elevation gain and looking at it afterwards in Connect isn’t that nice either.
I can see how it will be „better“ for doing a transfer run to the track to warm up and get there without any big effort, do the track workout and an easy jog back home. If you do it as a multisport, you will have a clean chunk of data for the workout wich doesn’t show the two transfers. But if you don’t want to hustle around with the watch to much, just start in track mode and end in that same mode in one activity.

  • Did you ever record Multisport Activity?

    Sure. Many times.

You wont get proper total distance or elevation gain and looking at it afterwards in Connect isn’t that nice either.

Why? Never had issues with that.

  • Yep, like others have said just use it from the beginning of your outing. The only slight issue will occur when you leave the track as it will try to pin you to it for too long.
With the Epix that mode isn't really needed though given how accurate the GPS is, only 1% vs up to 10% a few years ago with the FR610. I've been running on a 350 meter track recently with multi-band on and my 3x350=1050 laps came in between 1053 and 1059 meters. Nearly perfect and almost as good without multi-band.

  • Yeah i like how gps track looks like now compared to fenix watches i had before. I never had a chance to use track mode before and i just wanted to try but like you said gps is very good in epix and fenix 7 so i will probably just use regular run mode and see how it goes.
