Epix 2 without sapphire but with dark bezel?

Hi, is it any plan for Garmin to release an epix2 version without sapphire but with a dark bezel. I mean, I tend to prefer normal glass (provides better contrast) but I don't like the one offered with a silver bezel. Any idea if this can happen -> normal gorilla glass with dark bezel?? Thanks!!

  • With the AMOLED display my hunch is this isn’t as noticeable (sapphire vs non sapphire display) like with the Fenix line.  Similar to the Apple Watch and it’s sapphire vs non sapphire model.

  • Yes it is noticeably different. I’ve had both the base model is a lot clearer when any kind of light is involved. Just a shame it’s so fragile. I wish the titanium non dlc model was grey not white!

  • Thanks for your answers. I've got a Fenix 6 pro with no sapphire and its glass is still perfect, no scratches at all.

I also don't care about 32GB or multi band frequency, but I do wish I could get a non sapphire dark bezel version.

BTW i don't know what non dlc means, could you tell me what it stands for?, thanks!!

  • I have a 6x pro gorilla glass with no scratches too.  However the Epix is not built the same. My silver one broke with a little tap against a door handle. The DLC is the coating that the titanium Watch has on the bezel that gives it the dark colour and protection.

I begrudgingly had to update to the sapphire model as I was scared to break another base model.

  • Thank you for your quick answer.

Now that seems strange, I thought Epix would be as tough as all the Fenix line.

Now that you have confirmed that sapphire glass has also less apparent contrast on Epix, and that is less resistant than Fenix, I'm thinking again about getting the non sapphire Fenix 7x as I like the bigger format that I don't have now on my Fenix 6pro but I'm still tempted by the impressive Epix  amoled display. Decisions, decisions!!

  • Not sure you misunderstood me. The sapphire Epix has more glare than the Gorilla glass epix. But due to the Amoled screen it is still clear and viewable in most situations. I prefer the look of the silver bezel on the base Epix model but it was fragile.

My friend has the sapphire Fenix 7x and the epix has much better visibility.

  • Yeah, if Fenix 7 screen is similar to Fenix 6 one,  there's no doubt Epix will have better visibility even with sapphire glass.

I understood you, and sorry for my English if I didn't express myself properly. Anyway, in my case, I do prefer the dark bezel. What I didn't expect was the fragility of gorilla glass on the silver Epix that you've experienced.
