Epix 2 Upgrade Quandary

After waiting patiently for the Fenix 7 series to come out and plans to immediately buy a 7X sapphire as I did with 6X and 5X sapphires, I'm now in a holding pattern.

Not that the Fenix 7X isn't an upgrade and a necessary offering but it's left a bit short in my mind of the improved display of the Epix 2; however, the Epix 2 is at least a day short in battery life and 4mm in size to what a perfect Epix 2X could be as I like the larger screen for tired old eyes and a seven-day battery to charge while I wear a dress watch on Sunday.

Farther messing with my mentality is Garmin just introduced a new D2 Air X10 that has additional flying features along with an AMOLED screen and a couple of other features lacking in both the 7X and Epic too which puts me even farther from a decision.

I've always thought the top Fenix was to closest thing I could get to a one watch perfection but somehow I'm feeling that while it is better than my Fenix 6x, it is not what Garmin is really capable of delivering.

Is it me or do you feel the same?

Right now it I had a chance to buy an Epix 2X with the larger screen and presumably better battery than 6 days, I'd buy one!

However, my dream would be an Epix 2x Delta 51mm with pilot features.

I called Garmin to check on having multiple watches in Connect and they say it's possible, thinking of keeping my 6X and adding the Epix 2.  Has anyone tried this and is it practical as a separate question?

  • It’s definitely possible. I have a 6X, 7X and Epix in Connect currently as I weigh which to keep - the 7X or Epix

  • Thanks. Drop another reply if you reach any great conclusions

  • I have been using the fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and Epix 2 for a couple of weeks now. I have the same issue as you- if there was a Epix X size... but I digress, I can't honestly decide between both watches- it's a real problem.

But to address your issue of having multiple watches, it works fine. You set one watch as your "preferred" tracker and that is the one you use for sleep tracking and step tie breakers, etc. Your data shows in Connect from both watches ie you wear one watch in the AM and another watch in the PM, all of the data (HR, steps, etc) are aggregated together.

The only minor nuisance is when it comes to training status; You may have to switch the device back and forth in the app/web to see your most current trend But other than that, it works like a charm.

  • As a former 6X Pro Solar owner, I am finding the Epix 2 to be an excellent upgrade.

Solar charging is not much of a bonus for me and that white ring around the display looked too unslightly. The only drawback for me is battery life but I haven't done anything longer than a full marathon, which won't be a problem for the Epix 2. The real game changer has been that screen that is visible in all conditions- be it during the day or at night.

I also expected to want the Fenix 7X but to me it just isn't enough of an upgrade over the 6 Series.
