Problem setting HR zones from connect app

Hi,

I just discovered that I can't get rid of the Run HR Zones and use the standard settings, anyone with the same problem?

My standard settings are:

But regardless I get this on the watch even though I try to "Remove Running HR":

It is more likely a Garmin Connect bug than an Epix2 bug but still related to the change in where these settings are managed for the new devices.

I know I can set the Running Zones to the same as my standard ones but still annoying to change in several places...

  • Just did a new run (same route as yesterday but counterclockwise) and the exact same problem with HR zones for running.

Before the run I did the following:

    1. Made sure Garmin Connect Mobile and Epix2 was in sync.
    2. Deleted the app cache data and stored data.
    3. Opened Garmin Connect Mobile and logged in with my Garmin account.
    4. Opened my device settings for HR Zones and verified the generic settings.
    5. Opened "Add Sport Heart Rate"
    6. Was surprised to still see Running there but I opened Running and clicked "Removed Running HR".
    7. Exit all way out and verified that the watch synced.

Still there is a Running HR Zone setting and the Epix2 uses that Zone.

  • I have the same problem with you and I'm pretty sure it is a firmware bug.

  • Yesterday I did a run and managed to get the zones right. This is my findings:
You need to set the zones from the watch and you need to do it using a running specific setting.
Changes made in the watch did sync to GCM.

Changes done in GCM will not sync correctly to the watch and changes will just revert back.

  • Your solution does work as a workaround but the steps to setup HR zone in all previous garmin watches have never been complicated like this before

  • Agree, I've been a Fenix user since 2015 and never had any problems. I have a support case open for this.

  • I have a similar problem, if I set custom heartrate zones based on BPM in the connect app, sometimes it suddenly switches to based on %LDHS.

    Really annoying.

I'm now trying it makes any difference if I set the zones from my watch instead of the app.

  • Are you saying you can get the HR zones to represent correctly in the data fields during your run?  I want my zones to be based on %LTHR but I can't get it happening.  The zones during my run are always based on Max HR (or something similar).

After the run one of the data fields shows my zones correctly.  But the other data field doesn't show it correctly.  See pics.

    Correct zonesincorrect zones

  • Are you saying you can get the HR zones to represent correctly in the data fields during your run?

Yes, at least for now. My problem was that regardless of what change I did to the zone configuration in Garmin Connect Mobile, or on the  watch, it reverted back to a Run specific zone configuration based on max hr which was impossible to remove.
I didn't pay much attention to the screen shots from your post but I saw the configuration was wrong by looking at the zones in Garmin Connect afterwards and on the HR guage during run.

I just did a quick run to confirm that everything is aligned. During the run, in the summary on the watch and afterwards in Garmin Connect:

It is all based on my own zone configuration using HRR 51-60%, 61-70%, 71-80%, 81-90% and 91-100%

In the beginning I also had a F6X on my account and I suspect that my problem with configuring the zones was a conflict between those due to the change in how configuration is done. As I understand the zones are user confgiuration and should replicate between devices.

  • Thanks for the thorough response.

I have tried all the troubleshooting I have dug up through the forums to no avail, and garmin support don’t respond, so at wits end!

  • Do you have a run specific zone configuration or are you just using the sport generic?

Compare these two screenshots that are both from the zone setting on the watch:

Notice the difference. If you don't have any sport specific zone configuration it reads "Add Sport Heart Rate" and if you have one it says "Sport Heart Rate". If you have one and click on "Sport Heart Rate" it will show which sports you have a specific zone for:

I've removed all sport specific zones and only use the generic.
