Comparing GPS accuracy - What is the truth, a bit of advice

Hi,

Seeing the threads about GPS accuracy and it is good to see that finally the impressions are that Epix is better than previous and I agree. Got mine just before the weekend but unfortunately I've only been able to to a short walk due to a cold that refuse to go away.

To the point, after my walk yesterday I checked the GPS track in Strava. I wanted to compare it to the same walk a couple of weeks ago recorded with my F6x. To my surprise it was horrible, It couldn't be that bad could it? It was all on, configured maximum accuracy. Multi-band, 1s recording.

I was walking over pools, playgrounds, backyards...

And that compared to the F6X track that looks better in some aspects and on pair on the rest:

Anyone that notice the difference? It is two different map sources. Epix is from Strava using Mapbox, OSM and Maxar and Fenix 6 from Garmin Connect using Google (that uses local land survey maps for Sweden, their own data and Maxar).

Finally the Epix track from Garmin Connect:

It is almost perfectly aligned and where it is not it can be the map...

I've seen this before, different map providers can have a difference of up to 50m especially on sat images. Point is to not instantly blame the device when the track isn't aligned with were you ran, walked, hiked or biked according to a map ;-)
