Epix2 and HRM Tri

Hi, my epix2 v 7.2 is not using the hrm tri, it shows connected and the ant version, battery level, but it will not be used on trail run, never tried another activtiy with the hrm belt. Disconnecing and repairing does not help, also after starting the activity the green leds from the watch are still on, looking in the settings while activity is started, under sensor it shows connected but will not be used. No balance, ground contact time will be recorded, on my fenix 5 never had an issue.

It's odd as it seems to hold the BT connect to a phone consistently (unless the keep alive duration is longer for reporting disconnect). I want to buy a new chest strap so this is a bad news. As you say…

Whoa..I was just about to ask whether my recently acquired HRM-TRI could work with my brand new Epix2...you did write a post about it just 20 minutes before me...
This is so sad...why would Garmin drop the Tri is really a mistery to me...
Will write to support, although got low hopes for an answer....

Probably a bug, turn off the optical on watch HRM and see if the hm-tri connects correct and displays a heart rate. If not try a watch reset, you know otherwise it’s Garmin support to log a case.

I’ve not any issues with hm-pro or polar oh1

It's not a general problem, mine works just fine as expected. Maybe change your HRM battery. Otherwise contact garmin support.

Bob, is your HRM a "Tri"...?
Just noticed right now that it is NOT among the compatible HRMs in the Epix2 page : the Pro, Dual, Run and Swim are, but not the "Tri".... :-(

I looked at my first activity on my epix 2 and on that it was using the tri, but on all following activities it was never used again.

Yes it's a HRM Tri. Can you try a normal run activity? Mine so far always used the tri (just two runs though)

If it helps, my old Gen 1 HRM Run (the old type, where the pod clips on to the chest strap) work with my Epix and for both HR and Running Dynamics data; as does my HRM Pro too. So whatever is going on with the OP's HRM Pro and Epix, it's not a universal problem or incompatibility.

Are you running with your Fenix 5 at the same time as your Epix? I have previously observed that, whilst multiple watches can receive HR data from the HRM Pro at the same time, only one watch at a time can receive the Running Dynamics data. I've no idea why this is, because I thought ANT+ was just a transmission from the sensor to any device(s) that want to listen, but there's clearly more going on with Running Dynamics. The other thing I've observed is that if you pair to the HRM Pro as a Bluetooth HR source, you also don't get Running Dynamics data (so Running Dynamics seems to be an ANT+ only thing).

Apparently, the HRM-Tri is no longer offered for sale from Garmin.

I have an HRM-TRI and it works fine with my Epix 2, unless there has been a very recent change.
