Your epix watchface recommendations

Hi Epix-enthusiasts!

Because I've already seen some nice watchfaces out there I thought it would be nice to share some watchface recommendations that go well with our beautiful watches.

Ideally, the watchfaces have a good AOD mode, too.

For a start, here is my recommendation:

SHN EDO (here with PRO functions enabled)

https://apps.garmin.com/de-DE/apps/dcaedb61-a7b6-4bf1-a336-5a39dab18b2c

And AOD looks like this:

So what watchface do you like and enjoy on the epix?

  • How come the tag connect watch has some fantastic displays that actually produce depth and gives the appearance of different layers of mechanical depth, they seem to be hard to define that the watch face is actually not real.

The Garmin epix watch face appears very childlike in comparison?   I guess this is more than just a coding problem and more down to some hardware.

  • Well since I started out developing two Watchfaces where I tried to achieve that effect ( Aviator-X and Adventure-X) I think I can tell you the reason why it's really rate to find good realistic watchfaces:
First of all, to make a watchface available for a large number of devices, you have to adapt the design for each display size and technology. Some of them only support a very limited number of colors and some effects only look good on certain displays.
So what you want for your realistic epic amoled display is shadow effects and maybe even textures. And while you can do all that, you end up with a watchface that won't look good on MIP displays (forerunner) for example.
And now think that most of the watchface devs come from the lower resolution MIP displays and then adapt to the amoled displays. Naturally, a scaled version of the MIP display watchface is the easiest to do to integrate support for more devices. It's more than an extra mile to add depth and shadows just for those devices.

That said, it's sad that garmin doesn't go the extra mile! I'd expect them to design some nice realistic analog watch faces, especially since they don't have as many restrictions as the third party devs have...

  • Thank you for that detailed reply. very informative.

  • Really like the Battery Saver watchface. Would be nice if I could set it as default without going into Battery Saver Mode.

  • By searching the forum for watchface recommendations I stumbled across this thread. Recently, a watchface called AmoPilot was released. Sort of simulation of a real world analog watch. Not for free, but the nicest WF imho up to now.

  • Hello, I'm posting this just as watch face recommendation thread has been shown on top of this forum.

If you are looking for highly data-rich analog watch face suitable for daily outdoor activities/workouts, try the watch face I made - AirGlanceWF

It also supports AOD and a bunch of customization options.

It will be more worthy for users living in places where the air quality is occasionally bad (like me in South Korea).

AirGlanceWF is a paid watch face($5), but there is a 48-hour trial period.

Here's the link: Connect IQ Store | Free Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin

There is a manual on the description page, please read to enjoy the full features of AirGlanceWF.

  • I like some aspects of it, but the deal killer for me as that two of the complications (data fields) are worthless to me - have no interest in them - if those were able to be adjusted to other metrics it would make this watch face much more marketable.

  • AirGlanceWF - super impressive to get absolutely everything on thee - and love how you have the move bar on it, but it just lloks far too busy for me.

is it possible to remove some of the data off the watch face i.e. set those data points to blank?

  • Items for two data fields can be changed and can also be hidden(do not show).

Most of the displayed objects can be shown/hidden by changing settings.

I am also planning to build another AirGlanceWF with simpllified layout and touch/hold support.

For users already paid for this WF will also get the simplied version free.
