Screen dimmed automaticly while cycling (Epix on the handlebar)

I think this is not a BUG, but Garmin didn't count with the usage described in the title.

Settings: workout - max brightness and AOD on. Gestures on or off, doesn't matter.

Previously I used all of my Fenixes as a bike computer too, attached to the handlebar (Garmin has 2 kind of mounters for this purpose, so the watch "officially usable" for this).

After 8-15 seconds of no touch (and no gestures), the screen dims and if the sunlight is strong, I can't see anything on the display. If the sky is cloudy then I barely see the datas, but nothing as close as with my previous Fenix6.

Can you suggest something to change this behaviour? I want a bright screen for the whole workout.

  • I am not disputing anyone else’s experiences, just wanted to share that I am able to use the Epix as a handlebar mounted device as currently designed.

I have had the same experience.

  • I use my watch for kayaking, and having it fitted on my kayak, so I can follow speed and pace. But with this one dimming, and the reflections of water and sun. I can’t see *** on it :/

  • Any update on this? This behaviour is extremely frustrating.

  • I have the same experience during biking. Watch on the handlebar, display is AOD and it doesn't matter what level of brightness is set during activity, the display always dims so much during brighter light conditions (even if cloudy) outside that it is barely readable. However, in case of map screen, it's completely unreadable, the screen looks almost black so the watch is unusable for navigation. Once there's an alert or other event, then the display brightens up to standard level when you can see map completely fine. Would be great if the display would dim at least to the similar level as when using other data screens, don't know why map screen must superdim. The ambient light sensor makes the watch unusable during biking.

  • For me it's also frustrating. I do MTB and activating the screen on handle bar while biking on difficult ground is quite dangerous too. I don't understand why Garmin doesn't give customers the choice to accept the drain of battery ln case of giving us a real AOD. If potential pixel burn is the reason then it should be solved technically. At least there should be a clear statement of Garmin. The justification with battery drain is no real reason to me.in any case. And no, I won't buy an additional bike computer to solve this problem.

  • Yeah it is a workaround thank you, but I would have liked Garmin to give you the user the option to keep it at the max brightness, if you would choose to do so. Even if it means quicker battery drainage. I'm still a beginner cyclist :-) and most of my rides I do are between 1 and 2 hours, so in my case the battery should last even in full brightness.

  • is the "auto scroll" funktion a solution to keep display always on and awake?
