The honeymoon is over for my Epix 2

And.. Drumroll.  It's great.  I hated my Fenix within a few days for many reasons, from the screen and horrid WHR sensor.  (Fenix 6xPro)

Well Now on to My Epix 2,   Coming from the newest Apple Watch 7, Stainless steel with sapphire lens, the largest size.

  • The Epix 2 is lighter on my wrist than the AW, doesn't jiggle around on runs.
  • WHR is amazing.  I PRAY they don't touch it with firmware updates.  It's fantastic in and out of water!  My pool swims are spot on with my Polar HR on my Form Swim goggles.
  • Screen.  it's brighter and more legible than any screen I've used.  I even struggle at times to read what's on my AW, even with big bold fonts.  I have no issues reading anything with my 56 year old tired eyes with the Epix.  The screen is perfect for me.  Don't need my reading glasses!
  • The battery life is spot on to the marketing crap.  That's rare for Garmin.
  • Not being always connected with LTE is kind of nice for a change.  I still throw my AW in my zipper pocket on my runs.  I refuse to be left without the ability to make an emergency call.  (I NEVER take my phone anywhere).
  • Everything is working great.  No issues so far.  The always on Display (as long as conditions are met) is great.  And doesn't eat into the 6 day predicted battery life.
  • I only turn SPO2 on for sleep, and it's spot on with my AW.  Once again, sensor nailed it.
  • The touch screen works better and easier to navigate than my AW.  The swiping is smooth and I don't have to "try again" because the swipe didn't take.
  • The negative is how music is handled.   My Apple playlists copy over, but if songs have anything Garmin doesn't like in the meta data of the MP3, it won't copy over and my mixed together songs are all messed up.
  • LTE would be nice, only if you could make calls from the Device, and LTE burns battery.  So in this instance, i'm content.
  • I think the Epix 2x if it ever comes out would be too big, and once again some people would have WRH issues because of the size of the watch and the jiggling.
  • So, this is the most positive I've been about a Garmin watch since the F3HR.

NOW.  It's up to Garmin not to do what they do best.  Break things with updates.

  • A lot, not all, but a lot of my problems with the 6X were with accuracy.  SpO2, HRM and GPS would all go wacko at times.  Nice to see they nailed those for a change.  Now, if the Air Pods Pro reliably work, maybe I'd even say something nice about it.

  • Agree on all points but that Epix 2X would be too big. I will get the Epix and pray that Garmin will release the Epix 2X in the future. For me it feels too small comming from a long line of larger sport watches.

  • If they can keep it light enough to prevent jiggle, i would even even consider it.  Seeing now how good of an experience i'm having with it.

  • I would add to this list the ability to use the touchscreen when wearing gloves. My specific scenario this AM- I ran and it was about 20F and I have a clear plastic cover on my jacket that covers my wrist to keep it warm (but displays the screen) and gloves. I was able to use the touchscreen and swipe through menus through 2 blocking layers (the clear plastic from my jacket AND gloves) to start my run through the plastic with gloves on. Very impressive.

  • Wow.  If you think they will 'break' it later on, return it within the 30 day window to get your $1k or so back.  Don't whine.  Just like with buying a car, it will never be perfect.  If you wait for the perfect (anything or) next Garmin watch, you'll wait forever.

The only part I don't like, and it might certainly have me return it, is the watch is too big for my girly small wrists for a man.  It catches on lots of clothing.  But I could eventually get used to that.  It's not perfect, but for the best GPS I've ever had and that screen, I think I'll get over it. :-)

You must not have had to deal with a watch that works perfect, then 3 months down the road and update breaks something, and it never works the same again.  Even after further updates.  That's what happened with the Fenix 6xPro.  The initial firmware 3.1, the HR was great.  Then they broke it for me and many others.  It was never the same since.

I'm encouraged by 7.2.  Their first main firmware.  So far it is very clean.

It's light, and the screen alone makes all of it worth it.  I don't care for the big hockey puck size either, and I have very big wrists.  I'm 6'2 215.  Run/bike/swim.  Big build.  I'm so use to the sleek AW, i look down and it's sometimes unwieldy to look at.  But I'll get over it  Slight smile

You tiny runners crack me up.  Nothing slows you down.  A big gust of wind against me is like wind hitting a sail.  Those 5'6 170lb guys just slice through it.

  • All true.  Don't listen to the haters.  Haters 'gonna hate!

I just got the 745 and still lucky I can return if for full refund to offset the cost of the epix.  And on that, I got a $200 discount and, and my job is reimbursing me for the rest!  YAY!

I'm not sure we just slice through it. We just complain less ;)

  • I, too, am awaiting an Epix 2X (while rocking the Epix 2 for now).
