Do we have to set a sleep schedule??

On my Apple Watch, I don't have to set a schedule, it just knows.   I don't like setting a time, because the watch acts differently in sleep mode.  I just want to go to sleep when I feel like sleeping, not set a schedule.

Can the schedule be removed and just let the watch determine your sleep?

  • My understanding of sleep schedule is that it’s to change the display, the watch will track sleep irrespective.  My watch goes into sleep mode at 10 irrespective of whether I’ve gone to bed or not, sleep tracking has been good so far (aligning nicely with my Oura)

  • Would be nice but i guess it's the same as other Garmin's watches. The difference is that now you can set different sleep intervals for weekdays and for the weekend but it's still not enough in my opinion.

As the watch is able to record sleep outside of the set interval(also with 2-4 hours difference that i personally experienced) i don't get why it's so hard for Garmin to turn off the watch when the sleep starts instead of using fixed intervals.

(not related to this thread but looks like there's no real AOD anymore so i still have to understand how some stuffs works with Epix 2).

  • First, looking at some other threads it looks like there's no real AOD anymore on the Epix 2.

Second, the fact that the display goes into sleep mode during fixed intervals is the real problem in my opinion...when you have a fixed schedule is quite ok but during weekends or when you're in holiday i don't want that the display goes off 2 hours before i really go to sleep....and i don't need that it goes on 2-3 hours earlier when i'm still sleeping for x reasons.

Watch starts to record sleep? Turn off the display. Watch notice that you're awake or that you finished to sleep? Turn on the display. Should not be so difficult.

  • Fair, I get the use case and it should be easy enough.  I quite like the screen going off when I'm getting close to heading to bed so schedule works for me but your use case would be a good addition

  • My watch goes into sleep mode at 10

Have a look at the sleep schedule settings. Quite possible you’ll find a default.

  • That's not how my Apple Watch works? I have been tracking my sleep with my Apple Watch 6 and 7 and I have to set a sleep schedule in the clock app where the device goes into sleep mode and disables the touch screen. I can also trigger that mode manually on the watch as a DnD mode. The EPIX seems to work exactly the same.

  • Hi,
The biggest problem is the scheduled rest/sleep timing which destroy the whole user experience, so how that can be turned off?

  • not sure exactly what you mean, but if you long press the menu button (left middle) - then scroll and press system, then scroll and press sleep - you can change a host of features there i.e. change schedule, switch off DND, battery saver etc and change watch face from "sleep" to "don't change". Note this will of course impact overall battery life.

  • The problem is that I want to use the functionality manually without the scheduled feature. And now if you wan to use it it means your also forced to use the scheduling. So this feature should have option to turn the scheduling off.

Also if I am correct you cannot turn this feature fully off to avoid the scheduling and just play with DND functionality.

The scheduling feature do not add any value to this function it just mess it up.

  • not sure exactly what you mean, but if you long press the menu button (left middle) -

You still HAVE to set up a schedule.  Why?  Why just have the ability to disable that "unwanted feature"
