I'm on 7.2 and after a period of not moving my wrist, the display turns completely off (this is after the expected dimming) even though I have Always On selected. I hope this is a bug and not one of the ways it gets the 6 days of battery life.

Updated October 18th, 2022:
If your display was turning off despite your settings, the v9.37 software update has fixed the issue.
This picture will help and the Support Center article…
Thanks, Chris. Yes, that does help but given those specifications there isn’t really an option for a display that is always on so “Always on Display” is misleading (and now it makes sense how Epix is able…
I hope the 7 works out better for you. I’ll never be able to go back to that muted screen after having the Epix for a week.
To reiterate my experience, AOD on, gestures off, and I literally never…
It stays on for some of my 3rd party watch faces. Amazing how everyone was kicking off now haven’t given Garmin any credit for sorting this out
It still goes off if I switch to my paid CIQ watch face (GearMin3).
The dev needs to update their watch face to switch to a lower power watch face that still works with AOD, like this one https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/abc0fde3-23d3-4c8d-92ec-a2fd14aeab2f and this one https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/14a5ca0a-c6f0-43a6-b04a-23ec195de03c
Exactly it’s down to the developer not Garmins fault. All 3 3rd party watch faces I use are proper always on.
I am glad I found this summary on screen behaviour. I guess this summary is true for another Amoled screened watches like Venu2s.
I have just updated my watch and this has just started happening. Prior to the update the screen was ALWAYS on but dimmed. This was the experience that was reported in the DCR review as well https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/01/garmin-epix-in-depth-review.html at the 3:20 mark. Now my screen turns off completely after 4/8/15 regardless of if gesture is on or off.
@TravorCooper
When you go to System > Display > General Use, what is your Always On Display set to?
I've just changed my settings to AOD for general use. I'm seeing the display dim after 8s and the seconds disappear too, which I would suggest is also to be expected. On 8.15 with a stock watch face.
Always on is on. Gesture is on. Timeout is 4 seconds. After 4 seconds (even whilst looking at the menus) my entire screen turns off.
standard stock watch face as well.
Thank you. I just switched to your same watch face and tested with my AOD On and Gesture On. I am not experiencing your issue as described. When anything I do that qualifies to turn on my display, it then goes back to the AOD dimmed state based on my timeout settings.
If you are running the Beta software seen at the top of the Epix 2 forum, please email [email protected] to let the engineering team know of the issue. If your Epix 2 is on the official v7.35 software, try the troubleshooting.
Please try the following:
Hard Reset: Hold down your top left power button until your watch shuts off then let go once off
Reset Settings: Resetting All Settings
If you continue to have an issue despite both resets, reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.
