I'm on 7.2 and after a period of not moving my wrist, the display turns completely off (this is after the expected dimming) even though I have Always On selected. I hope this is a bug and not one of the ways it gets the 6 days of battery life.

Updated October 18th, 2022:
If your display was turning off despite your settings, the v9.37 software update has fixed the issue.
This picture will help and the Support Center article…
Thanks, Chris. Yes, that does help but given those specifications there isn’t really an option for a display that is always on so “Always on Display” is misleading (and now it makes sense how Epix is able…
I hope the 7 works out better for you. I’ll never be able to go back to that muted screen after having the Epix for a week.
To reiterate my experience, AOD on, gestures off, and I literally never…
That will be fine. It is only when you're dead still and then just a twitch wakes it.
I have had it turn off while lying in bed reading with my watch hand perfectly still. The only reason I noticed was that I was in a position where I could check the time without moving. As soon as I made the slightest motion it turned back on.
I think there might have been one that had his replaced with a 7X. And maybe one or two over at Reddit. That's not very many. But then there's the outside world, the one outside of Garmin forums and Reddit. Where the normal and the sane reside, the ones that don't hammer away on the keyboard as soon as they realize that the lowest brightness setting is 1 lux brighter than expected, or that the bezel is maybe greyish black instead of blackish grey. How many write in a forum if their watch turns on and off a few times a day, even if it irritates them each and every time? It would actually be interesting to know how many there are that hasn't more pressing things to attend to and that makes the effort to go to a forum to write about something like that. Is it 1 out of 100? I don't know. Is it 1 out of 1000? 1 out of 10000?
Even with this little niggle I absolutely love this watch, wouldn't trade it for anything. Finally garmin has stepped up to where they can have the best fitness watch, and compete with the best smart watches with the same unit. The touch experience is very snappy and its a standalone device that doesn't have to have your phone nearby to be useful. Since the 7.20 update I am also hand calculating out about 8 days of battery as well with the watch in sleep mode for 10 hours a night.
And that is 8 days with the so called AOD?
Yes, 16 hours a day with AOD and touch on with a Garmin watch face. I haven't actually ran it for those 8 days, just what I calculated out after 3.5 days on battery.
And no sp02, I guess?
Only while sleeping.
Impressive. That should mean you have maybe another day of battery life if you turn that off.
How many minutes a day of gps are you calculating?
There in lies the rub right now, as its winter here, so zero. But I am going to florida next week and plan on doing at least a couple gps activities a day as I use wrist navigation to bar hop.
