Epix Gen 2 buttons

Hello everyone,

I've seen 2 other threads with specific questions on this subject, but i was hoping we could combine all input into a sort of general thread for the Epix button behaviour.

I received my watch yesterday and I'm in love with it, but I've noticed the buttons feel very different to my previous F6 and F5. Those were firm and were all behaving the same, but on the Epix I see a noticeable difference between the 4 "ordinary" buttons (light, up, down, back) and the start/stop. All 4 ordinary buttons have a 2-click feel, where I can press the button until a certain position without it acting. At that point the button gets firm and it's only with a harder pressure that I get it to act while I hear a click. On the way back, you can feel a second click when the button is released and goes through that midpoint again. The clicks are always audible, which is surprising. I didn't have any of that on my previous watches. 

I know this doesn't affect the functionality of the watch, but it gives me a feeling of "lightness" on the buttons which I don't like much. The audible clicks are a bit annoying too.

Luckily (or not!) all 4 buttons behave the exact same for me, but I don't know if this is actually expected. Start/Stop is a different story, and that one is fully firm with only one click.

Should I expect the buttons to settle over time? Any experience from anybody who had this behaviour on previous watches? Should I just get used to it, or is this a reason for an exchange?

    Good question! Same here- I expect that this is the case for most, if not all, Epix 2 users. I do expect that all buttons will "settle" with more use.

    4 of my buttons click, one not. I will replace my watch.

    I replaced my watch and all the buttons have the same triple click. So I will stay as is hoping I won't face an issue in the future.

    My back button is the only button on my watch that does not perform the normal click. All buttons on my Fenix 6 Pro Solar had a distinct click. This makes me think that the back button on my Epix is faulty. I plan to contact Garmin and see about getting a replacement after the initial inventory is sold out which I think it is now.

    In my first watch the button that did not make the click was the light button. After clicking it many times applying power it slowly got in a state where it was feeling just like the other buttons. Then after a while I was noticing that it again returned to its initial state and after clicking it again for some times was back to "normal". Try it, it may make difference in your watch too.

    Thanks for sharing that bit of info George. I was going to contact Garmin today for an exchange, but decided I will wait 30 days before making a decision on what to do. Again, I cannot believe how nice the screen is and how much lighter-in-weight this watch is compared to my 6 solar. Garmin really hit a home run with the Epix Gen 2.

    Over the years I've owned a number of Fenix watches and have found that button behavior can be quite variable across individual units and the behavior can change over time (for the better or worse). This is what Garmin recommends for non-responsive/stuck buttons, which they have recommended to me for buttons that don't click: support.garmin.com/.../

    With that said, I've had the same experience on my Epix as others who have reported issues with their Back button - sometimes no click, other times a click, seems to depend maybe on the angle at which I press but I can't reliably reproduce it.

    As to the 'clicks' after releasing buttons (not just my Back button), to me that feels more like a bit of play in the button vs the same kind of click as when the button is pressed. Either way, not a great experience for an otherwise premium product.

    I noticed that my start/stop button does not have the distinct click feeling the other 4 buttons have.  I find that clicking it (sometimes purposely slightly off the center) seem to help in bringing it back to the "clicky" feeling.  But it's definitely not ideal.  My F6 Sapphire has consistent clicks on all 5 buttons.

    I have the Sapphire version.  The start button clicks and I can feel it 'snap' when at the bottom.  The lower right back button is about the same as start, but it's almost like it's 'less tall' then the start button so it doesn't take as long.  All 3 buttons on the left are a quick click and seem firm.  But just as 'short' as the back button.  The start button takes the most pressure and time to depress fully.

    Let's consider it was designed this way and not 'broken' per se.  And even if broken, I'd assume most of the watches have the issue.  This is what happens when you are on the bleeding edge of new tech and first in line.  We are the Guinea pigs I guess?

    Only one of the buttons on mine has a triple click (light button); Finding the sound a little annoying and hope it will go away.
