No backlight on Enduro 3

Hi,

I recently purchased the Enduro 3 and I’m very happy with it so far — but I’m having an issue with the backlight not working.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Adjusted all backlight settings (brightness is set to 100%)

  • Ensured battery saver mode and DND are turned off

  • Enabled both “Gesture” and “Button” activation under the backlight settings

  • Updated the watch to the latest software version (15.32)

When I press the top left button, nothing happens — the screen doesn’t light up. However, if I hold the button, the control circle appears, and if I double-tap, the flashlight activates. So the button itself seems to be working properly.

Is there something I’m missing, or could this be a hardware issue with the backlight?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. Please ensure that you have your backlight set correctly for your needs: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-7AD1A592-9044-4D84-9688-7B5209F85BFF/EN-US/GUID-5E2FECFE-27DC-49D3-BFDD-E3D3B0A41575.html

Once set correctly, make sure that the issue you are experiencing with the backlight occurs at all times, and not just when your watch is in Do Not Disturb Mode, in an activity, or during sleep.

If this continues, I would also recommend trying a factory reset with these steps:

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHTfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If there is no change, I would love to help investigate this further. For this, please feel free to reach out to me via Private message.

  • Thank you for your response. I’ve tried this before. I’ve also done a factory reset on the watch. Nothing works. I’m quite sure the backlight is defective — it clearly doesn’t work no matter what I do. I consider myself to be fairly technically competent.

Is it possible to send the watch in for service, or get a replacement? I’m going traveling in about a month’s time, and I was really looking forward to using my new watch…

  • It happened to me two or three weeks ago. After a couple of days backlight was working again, like you never had the problem to begin with. As soon as I noticed the problem I tried to increase birghtness and resboot the device. They were not helpful, the few days later when I touched the screen the backlight was working again.
Similar problem last week, backligh was present but at a dimmed lever that is below the 5% you can set as minimum. Then a couple of days later everything was back to normal.
I don't thing it's a problem related to SW, the first time I was on 12.×× and the second time on 15.31. I'm not in the beta program.
