Laps in Trail run is OFF since last update 1337!

I have noticed when watching a Trail run activity in connect the previous lap tab is now called intervals and shows weird things. It shows warm up, and recovery and run 1, 2, 3 et and then recovery and so on. They are just way OFF. My settings is as they have always been, auto lap by distance 1km.

Cycling and RUN works as before and shows the lap tab in connect and km 1, 2 , 3 and so on.

Anoying! Please fix this!

Anyone else seen this?

  • Did you do a workout? Then it will be called intervals with warm up, run, rest, recovery, cool down.

  • Noop. No workout. Just starting and stopping the activity!

  • You didn't take manual laps using the BACK/LAP button, did you?

If you take manual laps and your watch detects that you have alternating laps of low and high intensity/speed, it will try to automatically categorize your laps as intervals.

This is annoying for most people but there's no way to turn it off. (It happens on the watch itself. If you look at the activity on your watch, you should see the same intervals.)

  • Thanks for the explanation.
Waaah! That is such an idiotic function..

This means that you can’t just go out on a run and decide to do some random intervals using the manual lap button press without messing up the activity in connect. Sooo stupid. It takes away the function of manual laps!
And also (have not tried) but when doing a proper work out with warm up, intervals and rest you probably can’t decide do make the rest shorter by pressing lap button without messing things up.
    Remove automatic interval categorization!

  • Sure np.

Yeah pretty much :/. Unless ofc you did a whole interval workout with the manual lap button and it turned out the way you want in Connect after all haha. I think this is the use case they are trying to address.

Speaking of all the times ppl don't want this feature, a very common use case for me is to go for a steady state run but with strides in the middle or end, where I press LAP after each stride / recovery period. When I do this, I get auto intervals the same as you, and it's annoying.

And also (have not tried) but when doing a proper work out with warm up, intervals and rest you probably can’t decide do make the rest shorter by pressing lap button without messing things up.

No, this won't happen. I think auto interval categorization never applies during a programmed workout.

In Connect you can still expand your intervals into manual laps.

At least as presented in Connect, intervals are basically categorizations / groupings of laps. Each lap gets an interval category like Run, Rest, Recovery, Warm Up or Cool Down, and when several laps in succession have the same category, they're grouped into a single "interval".

You can also edit your intervals in Connect: if you change all intervals back to Run, then it should pretty much get rid of the auto intervals (all your manual laps may be grouped into one big interval tho, but this can still be expanded).

At one point, if auto interval categorization had been applied, then editing intervals in Connect would actually show all your intervals as Run - if this is the case, simply change on interval to anything else at all (like Rest), change it back to Run, and save your intervals. This should also have the effect of getting rid of your intervals.
