Enduro 3 will only charge 10-20% at a time

When I plug in my Enduro 3, it will only partially charge and then it stops. Usually it will go up 10-20%. I have to disconnect it and plug it back in and then it starts charging again, which means to get a full charge I have to do this multiple times.

This has been happening since the first time I charged it. I have tried using the cable and plug that came in the box, as well as other known good charging cables and plugs I own that worked just fine for my original Enduro. Happens every time.

The connector and cable are not dirty. As I said, this problem was happening right out of the box.

Is anyone else having this issue? I'm just wondering if it's a software glitch or maybe I have a bad unit.

  • That's the strangest thing.  The only thing I could imagine is it is regulating the charge based on the power it is receiving.  What is the exact make/model of your power supply?

Like I have all of my gadgets charge from a Baseus 65w 6 port power supply and different ports send different amounts of power.  Some of the ports are meant for phones and laptops while others are for earbuds and watches and will only send out a limited amount of power to charge the device.

My only guess is it's getting more power and the watch somehow limits how high it will charge before stopping so it doesn't get damaged.  If that is my only guess, I wonder if trying a different power source- even charging from a slow laptop connection- let's it charge to full w/o a cutoff.

  • So far I have used a Tp-Link 7-port power hub, a fairly new USB-C Anker brick, the little mini-brick that comes with the watch and a USB port from my computer monitor at work.

Seems to rule out being a power supply issue? I am going to test it with one of my rechargeable power bricks soon as see what happens. I have a Nitecore with a low power mode designed for watches etc. That is what is critical for me as I need the watch to be able to charge properly during long events.

  • Are you/gravity by any chance moving the watch+cable assembly?

I find that this happens all the time with my Enduro3 if I don't balance the watch+cable correctly (i.e., hanging from a wall, tilting on a table, resting on a plug, etc.)

I have to plug and replug the official Garmin cable 3-4 times before charging becomes "reliable" on my watch and then make sure I do not touch it at all.

I wish the Garmin plug could be more reliable...

  • Mine E3 sometime charges without indicating on display that it is charging. Did you try to leave wath in charger after it "stop charging"?

  • "Without indicating on display" is a bug in the latest official build, which is luckily fixed in the latest firmware beta v15.24.

I agree that the disappearing-banner bug, together with the dodgy Garmin cables, made it extremely difficult to judge whether the watch was actually charging or the cable was acting up.

  • Oh it didn't occur to me that the watch might be still charging! I'll have to test this when I charge it tonight. Thanks for linking that post!

  • I usually leave it face down on the table as that seems to leave the least strain on the plug. I know with my older watch it would get finicky with position sometimes once the contacts etc. had gotten dirty.

  • This was the issue! It was continuing to charge but not showing the charging banner. Thanks for that, hopefully they are able to fix it soon!
