Battery Life Prediction after update 12.38

Hi!
I am a new user of Garmin watches, used my Enduro 3 for 2 months and I`ve noticed a change of battery life prediction after update 12.38
Before update, on the 100% battery after charge my Enduro 3 shows me, that it will work for 36 days.
Now, after update, on 100% charge it shows me, that it will work for 28 days.
I didn't change any settings before or after last charge.
And I must admit that I am really satisfied with the battery life overall (this is my first Garmin watches, I switched from Apple Watch S7, so you can imagine how happy I am in terms of battery life).

But is it OK, that battery life prediction changed so dramatically?

  • This got backported from 13.x betas. The watch is just burning much more energy with real world usage dropping from 30 to 18 days in my case.

Personally I feel cheated. Instinct 2x promised 40 days without solar and I was getting 40 days repeatably. Enduro 3 promises 36 days and gives 18, probably will get worse as firmware progresses. I wouldn't migrate to a watch with battery life that's short 2 weeks.

It's not sustainable in my use case. Now I need to constantly use battery saver and remember to turn it on when I'm going out. Probably, same as with Edge 1050 I'll sell it and look for another solution.

  • Do you get 18 days battery life without logging any GPS activities?

I'm tracking the battery life since I got my Enduro 3. I usually recharge when I got 2-3 days left. Last time I recharged was after 16 days with 34 hours of logged training. I've estimated that each logged training hour is equivalent to 0.5 day of battery life so with that I got 35 days. (16 days + 2 days left + 17 days worth of training)

I never use battery saver. Watch is always connected to phone. Wi-fi is enabled. Stock watch face Portal only showing time, weekday, date, notifications and battery. I never use it for music. When I'm training I always navigate and showing the map.

  • Same for me using beta. My Enduro3 lives about 19-20 days without using GPS at all.

  • See if it works better if you are not using the beta.

  • After charged to 100% my E3 shows 39 days, now, after 7 days I have 74% and 29d. I did 2h gps activity.

I wonder in what conditions the Enduro 3 will last the declared 36 days?

  • From what I understand, it will last 36 days in smartwatch mode without any GPS activities.

  • Without any activities and extensive use. If you see 36 days on the screen the it should be close to 36 days if you don't change any settings or use it for training, music, flashlight etc.

With 2 hours of GPS activity you will lose about 1 day of battery time. So, 39 - 7 - 1 = 31 days and you see 29 days. Sounds about right. It is measured in days so there is a lot of rounding to full days here.

  • Yeap, you’re right.

But my issue, that I described at start of topic, is that after update to 12.38 and full 100% charge I have prediction of 28 days, not 36.

    Without changing any settings.

  • Maybe some settings were changed by the update.

Now v.13.31 is rolling out so I will likely not test what I get if I charge my watch to 100%. I updated the watch to 12.38 as soon as it was released.

The battery time for this charge cycle is currently at 8 days left and I recharged 13 days ago and done ~25 hours of training. So it is currently 8 + 13 + 13 = 34 days which is close to 36 days. It changes a few days back and forth. All values are rounded so it is hard to get them correct, but what I'm interested in is trends and bigger differences.

  • Currently I'm ok with prediction and battery life as well. Started on 100% 9 days ago with 38 days prediction. Now 26 days remaining (69%). The gps time is more than 25 hours. The average sun intensity is 200k lux.
