Navigation, climb pro, etc. problems vs. Support

Today I wrote to the Garmin Support.

Unfortunately, I am experiencing the following problems with my new Enduro 3 watch:

- If the pacepro plan is running, there is no climbpro data screen. It only shows for 3 seconds at the start of the climb.

- If I follow a route, unfortunately there is no data screen for the remaining length of the route, level map, etc. (this was standard on my previous 955 watch)

- If I create a route on the connect app, even though it is checked that there are turn notifications, there are none on the watch, this has to be turned on separately for the route on the watch.

- Furthermore, it does not record the regeneration pulse recovery HR number automatically after the run (955 did this).

Their answer to this:

"You have reached the us support you will need to reach out to local support in Hungary on support matter following the link below"

I think my problems are a software problems and not hardware. I wrote for a hungarian support, but I don't have high hopes for it.

Does anyone else have these failures?

  • PacePro does seem flaky but have not specifically tried to use climb pro and PacePro at the same time.  Second question - just setup your custom data screens for your activity to include distance remaining.  That definitely works.

I did a race just yesterday and the turn by turn alerts were inconsistent especially with undocumented trails.  Be sure to enable “guidance alerts” before starting activity.

Not sure about regeneration pulse - what is that?

  • Perhaps you are referring to “recovery heart rate”?  This is referenced in the manual but I don’t see it at all in Garmin connect.  Probably something Garmin still needs to implement .

  • - Furthermore, it does not record the regeneration pulse number automatically after the run (955 did this).

Do you wait for two minutes before you press Save after you pressed Stop. That is the requirement for Recovery HR.

Recovery Heart Rate Feature on Garmin Watches

  • Yes, thank you. I think for recovery HR.

  • Ok. Then I believe 955 is the exception since the support page still claims you have to wait for two minutes. I get recovery HR with Enduro 3 if I wait for two minutes and not if I save right away after stopping the activity.

  • Update:

So many additions that even though I turned on the navigation notification separately on the watch for the track, even if I started the activity from a pacepro plan, I still didn't have a navigation notification.

Since the 12.35 SW update, the climbpro data field is sometimes present under pacepro, but most of the time it's not, within an activity.

  • I contacted Garmin support and tested the settings. It works partially, but there are some things that need to be fixed in the software.

    Garmin:

"Thank you for reaching out to Product Support about your Enduro 3 and some of the differences you are noticing when using your Enduro 3 over the Forerunner 955.  U see you have connected with a few teams about using key features of Pace Pro and Climb Pro in run activities and assume that is the key issue you are still trying to resolve.  Both devices are great watches but they do have some differences related to some of the features and how they are setup on the Outdoor watches.  While on the Forerunner some of these features maybe turned on automatically, especially those related to running, often those features are not automatically turned on for the outdoor watches and require a little more setup when enabling similar features on an Enduro or Fenix watch.

I have an Enduro 3 and Fenix 8 and have used Pace Plan Pro a lot along with navigation and turn by turn directions.    You will be asked for Pace Pro if you want to use course navigation when enabling Pace Plan Pro but you will also need to look at the settings on your watch under Focus settings. Pace Plan Pro alerts are turns off so that likely is a feature you may want to turn on.
Below are suggestions for resolving some of the settings you mentioned in your original email concerning PacePro Plan, specifically adding in some data screens for Climb Pro, up ahead for mapping and distance
    PacePro Plan settings -
    - Once you have enabled a Pace Pro Plan on a running activity you will want to go to Activity Options on the main activity settings menu to customize your activity screens for running.  Note if you want this same option for Trail running then you will need to repeat the same options below.
    - Select Add New and you should see a few options, one of them being Climb Pro and Up Ahead.
    - On some of the existing data screens, such as the Map you should see a pencil icon in the upper right (its kinda of hard to see on the map screen) but if you press start & stop you can then edit that data screen for the map layout.  Here are there several different screen options for having map and other data metrics such as distance and pace.
    - Climb Pro settings are also under Activity Options and is off by default.  So you will want to select Activity Settings and then look for Climb Pro and you will want to turn that on along with reviewing the settings to customize how you want that feature to work, such as at the start of a climb, with descents and which data field you want it to focus on.
The recovery HR is available on the Enduro 3 but may function differently than on the Forerunner models.  If you immediate save the activity, such as a run, rather than waiting 2+ minutes then you will not get a RHR value in your run activity data."
    My answer:
    "I tested the settings.
    - The Climb Pro and Up Ahead data fields were already set up. With this update, it seems to work properly during pace pro.
    - I also turned on the pace pro plan notification in the Focus settings. But no matter how much I create the route with turn notifications turned on, and after uploading it to the watch, I also check this setting for the route on the watch, when I start the Pace pro plan, I enable navigation, but I still don't receive notifications for turns. During the activity, when I go back to the route settings, the navigation alert is turned off. Although I checked that it was turned on before. This is only automatically turned off when starting the pace pro plan. If I turn it back on during the activity, the turn notification works for the route.
Please consider fixing this in the next software update."
  • Just wondering how you turn on Pace Pro notifications in the Focus Settings.  I don't see that for some reason.  However, PacePro seems to work fine for me with the exception of the issue you stated which is that I can't get it to work while also getting the Turn by Turn notifications.
