Bug 1: Can't Navigate to a Waypoint
Initially using a walking activity and routing to a waypoint worked as expected. The watch would procedure a route. Version 11.6. At some point, my walking activity would not route correctly, still version 11.6. It would get hung up with calculating route and not route to any waypoints. When looking at the map, it would simply produce a straight line to the waypoint and not use any roads to route. After a bunch of troubleshooting, I discovered that my run activity would route to waypoints correctly. After much digging, I realized that the difference was that at some point the walking activity profile under routing had simply dropped and removed calculation method and avoidances options in the routing activity profile menu. Because these menu items were removed/dropped by the watch (I believe the cause of this bug) my walking activity could no longer calculate any routes to waypoints. To resolve this, I had to restore the defaults under my walking activity, and this has resolved it for now. The two routing menu items were once again restored under the routing options for that activity profile and this fixed the issue. This also happened to my hiking activity profile as well, so I had to restore this activity profile defaults as well. The downside is that all the time I spent setting up my data pages were wiped out when I had restore the defaults in order to get routing back up and working. This also makes me lose a bunch of confidence as I feel like these menu items could be dropped at any time thus allowing me to not calculate routes again in the future when I would need it most.
Bug 2: Guidance Alert Won't Stay On
When navigating and routing is on, if you scroll down to guidance alerts and turn that on, as soon as you back out of the menu, this setting gets turned off again. It will not remain sticked with the correct on setting that the user has set. I believe this is the cause of the bug where nobody can get navigation alerts on the Enduro 3 because the default is set to off and setting it to on will not work properly.
Rant/Venting:
At this point I am so incredibly disappointed that this watch has been released with this software so early. I can't rely on this watch for navigation and hiking, which is the whole point of a watch like this! I have encountered so many other bugs/issues with this watch and software. The worst part? I really like the new hardware and display. There is so much potential with this watch! But the software is just ruining my experience to enjoy this watch and to be able to use it as intended. These are MAJOR bugs that have been released to end users. I do not trust it on a hike.
I have a couple weeks left for my return window and at this point unless these issues get addressed, I will have to return this watch as much as I love the new design, display, and hardware. When I pay this kind of money, I need to be able to use the watch as it was intended, and to be able to rely on it. I am okay with minor bugs here and there, but this is ridiculous with the amount of MAJOR bugs I have encountered.
Sadly, I have lost all confidence in Garmin as a company with this watch/software. A lot of trust has been broken for me with this release. On a positive note, I do hope the bugs that I have reported above will help developers and users alike before I figured out what I want to do with this watch before my 30 days are up.
