No turn notification during navigation

I'm having an issue in my new Enduro 3.  I'm a long standing Garmin user as I had a Fenix 6X for a few years and then a Fenix 7X Solar for 2 years, so it shouldn't be a noob error or RTFM issue!! (At least I hope not)

If I'm using navigation for a course on any activity type and I'm on any screen other than the map, I get no notification of a turn, either visually or from a tone/ vibration. The red guidance arrow rotates 180° once I go past the turn, then about 20+ meters later I get the off-course warning with a beep and vibration (so my watch tones and vibration definitely work).

If I'm on the map screen a turn arrow and distance counting down to it come up, but I get no vibration or beep when I reach it. This means I'm going to be missing turns unless I constantly keep the watch on the map screen (which I never do) and even if I do, unless I watch the screen constantly, I'll still miss the notification as it doesn't beep or vibrate.....

I've tried routes I've used in the past which previously sent turn notifications from my Fenix 7X watch screen. I've also setup new routes using both Komoot and Garmin Connect (making sure turn by turn notifications are set to on in the route before sending to my Enduro 3) I still get nothing on the Enduro.

I even setup a round trip route on the watch.... I got no sound or vibration on the Enduro at any turn.

I've gone through all the notification options on the watch, even in the 'Focus Modes' settings options for activities and nothing changes sadly.

Surely it must be a bug!? Or am I missing something?

  • Enduro 3 now on v12.35

Update notes did not mention TBT navigation so should not be surprised that it still doesn’t work for Courses created in GC.

It DOES alert if “Off course” or back “On course”.

Does Garmin intend to fix this or am I doing something wrong?? With my old Fenix 6 Pro it would alert with approx 30m before a turn and then at the turn itself.

  • Has anybody experimented with seeing if turning on every second recording helps to generate better quality TBT alerts in Garmin Connect? Intuitively, option 1 should create better quality input for the algorithm.  When I have time, I will try this comparison for the same course.

    1) Every second recording with All Systems / Multiband

    2) Smart recording with GPS only,

  • I am always using 1s recording and my TBT notifications are all spot on and therefore much better than with my old Fenix 6x where notifications were always late.

  • every second has absolutely nothing to do with TBT alerts.  Every second only impacts what is written to your activity file and has zero impact on what you are seeing during an activity.  I guarantee your GPS is continuing to calculate your current position multiple times a second regardless of the "Recording" mode.

Besides, where the turns are is completely set by Garmin Connect and not by the watch.

Zero chance this mode has an impact here.

  • What I am referring to is using the every second recording for the initial collection of points used to create the course which is then subsequently followed in another activity.  Yes, for the subsequent following of the course, every second or smart recording makes no difference as you said.

  • No need for you to experiment Marc

Garmin just needs to step up and deliver a working product haha

Look at us finding ways to maybe get this bloody watch to work the way it should be. It’s pathetic Garmin!

  • This is still an issue for me creating round trip courses

  • Did a 18k trail run yesterday. Had the course loaded in Connect with turn navigation on. But no prompts, only when I ran off course.

Did the same on my Garmin Fenix 7x , always worked. Don’t know what’s going on now.

  • Did you turn on the GUIDANCE ALERTS on the watch for this particulary course as well?
Did you use: FOLLOW COURSE as routing option?

It constantly works for me for running, cycling and hiking if I have both settings active.

  • Turn by turn is also working well for me with one caveat.  First, as others have said, Turn Notification must be enabled when the course is created on Garmin Connect AND Guidance Alerts must be enabled for that course on the watch.  The caveat is that this works well for courses that I myself have created.  For courses created from gpx files provided by third parties I have more problems.  Other people have determined that this is a Garmin Connect issue and not necessarily specific to the Enduro 3.  There are ways of manually validating and generating the turn points which others posts have documented.

As an example of how well this worked for me yesterday, while running on a trail, there is a small tree house off to the left reachable by a rope bridge.  I got a turn alert to go on to the bridge and then upon reaching the end where the tree house was, I was shown a u-turn alert and then another alert to left as I was exiting the rope bridge.
