Worth upgrading from Enduro 2 to Enduro 3?

Just curious if anyone has upgraded from Enduro 2 to 3 & has any opinions?

Got my Enduro 2 second hand last year for a great deal & have been contemplating selling it for about the same price & then getting the Enduro 3 new.  I get 20% off on Garmin watches from work so net out of pocket would cost extra $300.

I run outdoors daily & have been getting around 3 wks battery life on the Enduro 2.

I realize the Enduro 3 has the Elevate 5 HR sensor w/ECG, the better solar tech & the new UI (which is hit or miss apparently) with a more readable screen.

Is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks for reading!

  • No its not worth. I have Enduro 2 and i can't find a reason to justify and buy the "plastic" Enduro 3.

  • It's somewhat subjective but I'd second what the poster above says. I own the Enduro 1 and the Enduro 2: When the Enduro 3 came out, I closely compared the specs between the 2 and the 3 and couldn't find any new feature justifying an upgrade.

The main feature of the Enduro, the ultra-long battery life, wasn't improved significantly. In fact, I remember runtimes even being marginally better for the Enduro 2 when not taking into account solar charging.

The Enduro 2 was somewhat a Fenix 7 Premium with better battery life and flashlight. The Enduro 3 seems to be a second-tier Fenix 8 with extra long battery life. It's good that they brought the weight and price of the Enduro 3 down but other than that I don't see anything worth cashing out.

Then of course, if the Elevate 5 HR sensor w/ECG and the better solar tech are critical features for you, upgrading to the Enduro 3 could still make sense. Even more so if you can get a discount. Otherwise, save your money for the Enduro 5.

  • Skordilovich & Labrador77 - thanks for the feedback - agree realize Enduro 3 is lighter, but I prefer the titanium bezel & back cover vs polycarbonate back of Enduro 3.

Maybe in the Enduro 4 or 5, Garmin will figure out how to retain the more premium feeling (& robust) metal back and keep weight down & still have awesome battery life.

I also owned these two devices. Could you confirm my finding that although Enduro 2 has a decent “smartwatch mode w/ activity tracking “battery life, it lags quite behind that of Enduro?

I know that even the specs say 34 days vs 50 days (no solar effect), but my finding was that using the very same settings Enduro was closer to the official 50 days even when it was 1 year old than Enduro 2 to its own 34 days when it was still brand new.

  • I am afraid I can''t help: I never even tried not charging either Enduro until the battery was nearly out. I usually record activities 6 days a week and charge them when the battery is below 70%. Besides, with the Enduro 2 at night I tend to use the flashlight a couple of times while the Enduro 1 doesn't even have a flashlight - it would be hard to do a fair comparison.

  • No, it's a waste of money. The new user interface Enduro3 is sooo stupid and the navigation is much worse , Garmin have a looot to improve. Sadely Garmin is doing that on our account, they lounched such an incomplet device full of bugs. It will probably take more than a year to get it wright. What good is, the display is crispier and brighter as in E2 and the battery life seems a little better, but not so impressive. GPS accuracy is also not much better, a lot of GPS drift.

  • When I decide to buy a new device, I don't look at the features but what new possibilities it can bring to my existing lifestyle/training.
From this point of view, E3 is rather a downgrade for me, compared to E2 - the flashlight has become less bright.

The screen, interface, battery, functionality, and appearance of the E2 have satisfied me for several years. At E3, some elements are slightly improved, but "slightly" is clearly not enough of a reason.

So I decided to wait for the Fenix 8 Pro with a MicroLed screen.
