How Weather app works via WiFi on Enduro2 ?

Enduro2 Ver.15.77. Never connected to any smartphone. Sync only on WiFi and (when need to charge) to PC with GarminExpress.

I noticed that the factory preloaded Weather app is actually working in my settings. Almost working. It never shows the last page (Phone connection Required), but otherwise if is functional. However, I cannot understand when it refreshes the information and how to force the refresh via WiFi?

  • Hello

There have been some great updates to the Weather widget in the watch recently. This allows you to receive weather overlay data, via GPS location. Here is a link with information for this.

Update: Here is the corrected link: Weather Overlay information

Update 2/14/2024: While it is possible to retrieve the weather data over WiFi, this is not a reliable weather source and cannot be relied upon. Weather information is still intended to be utilized with a Bluetooth paired connection on a smart phone, using the Connect Mobile app.

  • This allows you to receive weather overlay data, via GPS. Much of this can be accessed without the Smartphone pairing. Here is a link with information for this. Weather Overlay

Interesting, I did not hear yet, that GPS satellites broadcast weather data, and am rather surprised (perhaps even a bit skeptical). Unfortunately, the link you provided points to Garmin's internal support website, and I cannot access it. Could you provide some details, or references for the weather data from GPS without any smartphone paring? The publicly accessible article on Weather Overlays claims the contrary:

Weather overlay data will be retrieved via Bluetooth data connection to a smartphone.

  • The updates to the weather data, do allow some information to be updated using GPS. This will show precipitation, cloud cover, temperature, and wind speed and direction.

Thank you for pointing out the link was not working. Here is the corrected link: Weather Overlay information

  • The updates to the weather data, do allow some information to be updated using GP

Thanks for the corrected link! Unfortunately, it tells the same as the document I linked in my previous post:

Weather overlay data will be retrieved via Bluetooth data connection to a smartphone.

It only uses GPS to get the location, but unfortunately, no weather data can be retrieved from the GPS satellites, since (to my best knowledge) they do not broadcast any such data:

When you access the weather map, the watch will attempt to connect to GPS in order to accurately display your location.

  • Back to the original question in the OP:

I cannot understand when it refreshes the information and how to force the refresh via WiFi?

If you do not have the watch connected over the BT to the phone, then the data is being transferred over Wi-Fi. Normally, weather data is being requested every 20 minutes. If you want to force the update, you can power the device off, then back on, and syncing it.

  • I have updated my original verified answer in this thread.

  • Sure, I've just uploaded the screenshots.
