Watches are not syncing properly

  • I have an enduro 2 I wear for work.  It tracks my stats during the day.  When I get home, I put on my marq2 aviator.  The two watches have a difficult time syncing the data between them.  My steps & stairs are not adding up on the watches, but the do in the app.  Body battery is off too.  Both watches are on 11.28.  I have power cycled them each once yesterday to try to solve it.  Am I expecting to much?  Is there a way to set them up to accomplish this?
  • Devices need a couple of syncs in the right order to be in sync, which will naturally happen over time, but can lead to some apparent disparity when they haven't done so.

For example, to get accurately synced steps: Enduro needs to sync to Garmin Connect (GC), then MARQ needs to sync to GC, but Enduro and MARQ will then need to sync again to get the other device's data 'back' from GC before they appear in sync on those devices... by which time you might have done more steps with one of them.

Best way to check if this is your issue is to force-sync them in turn on your phone - e.g. MARQ, Enduro, MARQ, Enduro, allowing each one to finish syncing before you do the other. You may also find that the on-watch re-calculation isn't triggered until you actually look at the stat (e.g. using glances) rather than just what might be shown on the watchface.

Also, on watches which still have the setting, you need to make sure 'Physio TrueUp' is enabled in Settings. Newer watches on the latest firmware don't have this setting as it's automatically enabled.

  • Thanks for your reply.  I reread my post and noticed I forgot to mention a symptom.  I sleep with  marq2 on.  My phone charges on the night stand next to me.  I open up connect, go weigh in, then start my daily routine.  On my way out the door I slip on the enduro.  I’ll get home after work, and check connect and notice the marq hasn’t synced since the night before.  Pressing the sync button doesn’t seem to go it.  I let connect run in the background all day on ios.  Force closing and restarting connect does seem to force a sync, but the data doesn’t merge in my glances.

Update—the enduro was the active watch after I wrote the above post.  Both watches synced at 11:57 PM.  Sometime during the night the marq disconnected from my iphone‘s bluetooth.  The enduro, which is in another room, stayed connected.  If I factory reset/remove my watch from connect, will I lose my data?  I know in the past this has fixed bugs after major updates.

  • With the Physio TrueUp system becoming automated with the v11.25/v11/28 updates, I suspect the headache is due to swapping out your watches only for sleep metrics.

Be sure to keep in mind, put on your MARQ 2 at least 2 hours before you go to bed. I highly recommend you manually sync your MARQ 2 each morning out of habit, then put the Enduro 2 on for the day and even consider manually syncing your Enduro 2 once when you first put it on. You should be fine.

  • I have this same issue. I wear a Fenix 3 to work and a Fenix 6 for all other activities. I wear the Fenix 6 75% of the time even during sleep. I do a 2 mile walk every morning (wearing the Fenix 6) which is about 4300 steps. After the walk I switch to the Fenix 3 then head to work with zero steps on the Fenix 3. I usually get about 12,000 steps during work with the Fenix 3. So adding the Fenix 6 and The Fenix 3 my steps should be around 16,000. But for some reason, when I get home from work and the Fenix 6 will sync with the app that has counted my work steps all day from the Fenix 3, it will say roughly 2,000 to 3000 steps less than the Fenix 3, when they should combine to 16,000 for the day. I cant figure out how to fix this issue.

I would recommend syncing the watches before and after each of the changes. I mean sync the F6 before removing it from the wrist, and then sync the F3 when putting it on. Sometimes you may even need to repeat the cycle of syncing both watches twice in order that they exchange the data completely.

After that, verify on the detailed Steps screen of GC whether the right count was preserved there. I explicitly tell the detailed Steps screen, because unlike the Steps panel on the My Day screen, it shows the number of steps that were already synced to your GC account on Garmin's servers.

After that, I would go back to the My Day screen, do a few steps, and see whether the Steps panel counts them. If it does, sync again and go again to the detailed Steps screen to see whether the steps were added to the total count on the server. In this way, you will be able to identify exactly at which moment the steps get lost, and hence may be able to do something with it.
