External HR Straps don't work with 10.43 on Enduro2

Since my Enduro2 updated to 10.43 a few days ago I cannot connect to any of my external HR straps.

I generally use a Polar H10 which is both Bluetooth and ANT. I usually connect via ANT and it was working fine with the previous software (I don't use betas so I think the previous version was 9.33?). Since the update my watch can't connect to the H10 strap anymore. I have tried removing it and then adding again but the watch doesn't detect the strap. Usually it will detect both the ANT and Bluetooth connections. Have tried restarting the watch multiple times with no change. Have put new battery in the strap but made no difference.

I confirmed that I can still connect to it no problem from my old Enduro so it is definitely an issue specific to the Enduro2 and the new software. I have also been able to connect to the H10 strap via bluetooth using my iPhone so I really don't think it is an issue with the strap.

Have also tried to connect to my HRM4 Garmin strap (which I don't usually use). I put a new battery in to be sure and cannot detect it with my Enduro2 but I can connect to it fine using my old Enduro.

Anyone else seeing these issues with external HR straps? According to DCRainmaker he has heard of other people across the fenix range and Forerunner 955 who are seeing similar issues with external HR straps on 10.43.

Anyone know how I can downgrade to the previous production software (I think that was 9.33)? Garmin sure don't make it easy to downgrade when they screw something up....I can't find anywhere to download the old firmware these days. Last time I needed to do this was years ago but now it seems they don't want you to be able to.

Have emailed Garmin support but they are all on holiday for thanksgiving so not expecting any response until next week and looking for a way to fix my watch in the meantime.

  • I just checked mine with my HRM-Pro+ and am not having any issues.  It connected right up.  I had it on BLE.  Switching to Ant+ also just works.

What other sensors do you have paired/connected?

Have you tried power cycling your Enduro2?

  • Yes, as per above I have tried power cycling the Enduro2 multiple times. The only other sensors I currently have setup on this watch is a Stryd because I hadn't needed things like inReach since I got the Enduro2 so hadn't set it up yet.

My stryd needs re-charging so not sure if that has been affected by the software update or whether it will still connect as stryd battery was dead today when I noticed this issue with HR strap.

Have just removed the stryd from my Enduro2 so I now have no sensors setup (I previously removed my HR strap and couldn't add it back).

Watch still doesn't find anything when I search for my HR strap.

From DCRainmaker said he and his wife were not seeing any issues at all (like you) but he knew of multiple people who were so there must be some specific setup/usage that is not working.

All I want now is to be able to downgrade to the old version... I didnt actively care about upgrading but just let it go ahead as have never really had issues like this with production releases on any of my Garmin watches over the past 10+ years.

  • Major bummer.  Of course it has to happen just at the start of a long holiday weekend Disappointed

Good call on checking if removing Stryd might help since they've done lots of stuff with running power recently.  Were you able to add that back without issue?

Unfortunately I can't help you with the downgrade option.

  •  Not seeing any problems connecting to external sensors on my Enduro 2 either. If you want to revert to earlier software you’ll need to get hold of one of the alpha releases of software via the Garmin Beta program.

  • Wow….so I emailed garmin to tell them about this issue and basically got an “f you” answer because it was a polar HR strap. We don’t guarantee 3rd party HR straps will work so speak to the manufacturer….cannot give you any support…

erm it worked until you updated the software…and by the way I also have an HRM4 garmin strap that has the same behaviour so maybe will you support me now!?…as someone who has spent over 5 thousand dollars on your watches over past 5-10 years. What an utterly crap response.

  • I am sorry you have an issue with your external HRM. Your watch should work fine with a HRM whether our own or other manufacturers. Your v10.43 software update may have gone sideways on your watch causing your issue. My sincere apologies.

Regarding when you reached out to Product Support in your region, please reach out again. If possible, call into Product Support. If you continue to be told you cannot be helped, please ask to speak to a Team Leader.

  • I believe this person was able to resolve the issue by using an old alpha download package to downgrade his watch — at which point the Bluetooth connection to the phone and all of the BT and ANT+ accessories started working. He then redid the OTA upgrade and everything stayed working. So it was somehow an error in the firmware update process that lead to this failure mode.

There was a thread on DCRainmaker.

  • Hello, did you solve this hr strap issue?

Im facing the same issue with HR straps, tried everything and behaviour is still the same - cant connect or disconnection of the strap after 10min and unable to reconnect.

  • I’ve possibly being lucky but I’ve had no issues with my HR strap (Garmin HRM run) with the 10.43 software, connects fine and disconnects with no issue. Also the data provided seems very accurate as you’d expect from a HRM strap. I have turned off ‘Auto discover’ and always disconnect my HRM once I’ve finished my activity to save it constantly searching and trying to connect.

  • I had no issues a week or two ago.

Yes, this is also my setup - turn off discovery and turn off ext sensor for connection.

    im on 13.22.
