Do we think there will be a Pro version of the Mk3i released? The outdated hardware (Elevate 4 sensor) of the Mk3i really bugs me.

I am interested in a Mk3i which I would be intending to wear for some years (my Fenix 6 Pro is 5 years old now). However, it really bugs me that the Mk3i comes with older hardware in it, using a pervious generation optical HR sensor that did not integrate the latest developments in ECG and skin temperature. When keeping a watch for years, I don't want it to start with alreadys outdated important hardware like the optical sensor with missing features that are very important for health tracking (for example skin temperature is a reliable indicator of getting sick or when body temp is dropping too low).

As such do you think there will be an updated version of this watch mid-way through the cycle?

  • Buddy boy, you’re barking up the wrong tree if you think people here know Garmin’s official plans.

That said, your desires should be met around November ’26 with the MK4i. But by then, you’ll be asking why the MK4i doesn’t have the Fenix 9 hardware…Rofl

  • Buddy boy I'm barking up the wrong tree? Yikes, another tetchy and slightly cringeworthy reply!

  • I don't think there is much room between Fenix 8 and MK3 for another dive watch. I love the mk3 and the amoled display. I had a F6pro before and have similar charging intervals now (not using AOD) and the display is so much better.

The F8 would be sufficient for what I need if it had AI.

  • Thanks for the thoughts. I do think there is a gap here for AI watch that is not the Mk3i. If Garmin want to sell those transmitters and increase adoption among diver groups then a cheaper AI option than the Mk3i is imo essential.

Currently I am looking at a used Mk2i and T1 transmitter for less than $800.

  • Thanks for the comments! I did not include AI in my ideal watch as an attempt to keep costs down, and personally I still use an external analog SPG, so at the moment AI is not a priority for me (but I fully accept my personal needs may differ from the majority of Garmin users). Obviously, I would not object to AI inclusion if the associated cost increase is very reasonable.

But for me MIP solar display is indeed a priority. I have it on my F7Pro Sapphire Solar and Edge 840 Solar, and I do appreciate the slowing of battery discharge when I use them outdoors in sunny days.

Tend to agree with the comment on the need of a new Garmin AI Dive watch (dive rating > 60m, imo) less expensive than the Mk3i.

  • Sounds  like the Fenix 8 Solar with MIPs display is perfect for you.

Unless you need more than 40m dive depth.

  • Unfortunately not as I want the option for air integration later down the line. I am thinking a used Mk2i with T1 transmitter for 600-800 USD will be the best option for now.

  • Well... yes, I would like a dive rating deeper than 40m.

I do not exceed 40m regularly (although I may do occasionally), however I would not like my dive computer activating its “near 40m limit” alarm every time I am around 36m (as the F8 seems to do). Also, I would like audible dive alerts in addition to vibration (F8 has vibration dive alerts only).

I may seem too picky, but at the moment I am ok with using my F7Pro for above-water activities and continuing using my dear old, trusted Mares dive computer for under-water activities, and I will upgrade to a single combined watch/dive computer once I am fully happy with all the features of the new Garmin product.

  • I have an Mk2i but am trying to selling it and the AI for the Fenix 8. I don't dive beyond 40m and just use my SPG. The ECG is the main reason I'm interested. I've heard it's comparable to chest straps and those damn things break down too quickly for me. AMOLED sounds legit but just an added plus.

  • I know you said less than 800, but I'm selling my Mk2i + AI for 900 on WUS, if you're interested. No stress, I know price is a big deal. Just trying to make back what I paid 2 mon ago.
