What is the current state of the Descent Mk2i in late 2024?

Hi everyone. I am considering getting a used Descent Mk2i (around $600) as a pure diving holiday watch and I would please like some feedback as to what the current state of it is in late 2024.

Did Garmin fix the majority of the bugs and add most important Fenix health tracking features or is anything still broken/missing? Is it worth buying in 2024 for a reduced price?

Many thanks. :)

  • Well.. There is always something missing. It depends with wich Fenix do you compare it.. ;)

In general i have the feeling that there are no major Bugs (left) but it might be that you are doing complete different Sports (apart from diviing) then i am and therefore you might find stuff that is missing for you.

The only thing that even the MK3i cant do (and what i miss), is to have a Sidemount Mode with Gas Switching Notification.

  • Depends on your needs. If you are recreational diver I would wait another year and buy used Fenix 8 - supports dives up to 40m&nitrox, but if you need gas switching, trimix, ccr ..., then MK2 is OK. However keep in mind Descent Mk2 is the Fenix6 generation watch, 2 generations old HR sensor, no nice features such as google music support (for now), etc. I have Mk2 and will keep it for technical dives but for all the recreational staff I'll upgrade to Fenix 8 or something else somewhere in the future ... Hope this helps.

  • Well, I actually bought a used Mk2i + T2 transmitter for $860! SO far I am loving the larger screen and profile and it seems a lot faster in operation than my Garmin 6S Pro! I think for the money I got a really good deal and am now looking forward to trying it in the water.

  • I own an Mk2i and T1 and has never had any issues, I also use it for running and it works perfectly will, If you can get your hand on one go for it.
