Backlight erratic | Unprompted reset procedure not working

Anyone had a problem with the backlight being erratic on the Mk2i? One of these days, I enabled "Do not disturb" on my watch for a day nap. Later, when I disabled DND, I found that the backlight is not coming on when I depress any button or during hand gestures.

Once in a while, the backlight does come on when depressing a button, but goes off in less than a second.

If I put it on Flashlight mode, the backlight comes on once in a while, but again goes off after about 5~10sec. Sometimes, it doesn't come on at all.

The Backlight settings in "not during activity" are set to Keys - On, Alerts - On, Gesture - On, Timeout - 8s, Brightness 20%. I have tried increasing the brightness setting.

It feels like a hardware issue, but to rule out a software issue, I tried the reset procedures.

1. Soft reset: holding down the LIGHT button for 15~30s to switch off the watch and then turn it back on again. That hasn't helped.

2. Master reset: "Delete data & erase settings" from the System - Reset menu. That didn't help either.

3. Unprompted reset: This reset procedure does not work at all. This gives me a suspicion that there is a software issue with the watch. Or has Garmin removed that procedure in the latest release? I'm running Sw ver 30.00. The procedure I am using is... First, switch off by holding down the LIGHT switch for 15~30s. Hold down START/STOP and LAP buttons. Press LIGHT to power on the watch. At first beep, release START/STOP and at second beep, release LAP and LIGHT. Unfortunately, the beeps don't come at all and the watch just boots up as usual.

Any ideas on the backlight problem and on the Unprompted reset problem? Without the backlight, a dive does not sound like a good idea at all.

Race prediction errors since latest update

Ever since the latest firmware update I am getting massive jumps in my race predictions to elite values (which I am not) for 5km to marathon distances. For example, my 5km prediction jumped from 24min to 16km suddenly before returning to normal values the next day - but then after another run they would jump again

Custom Tank Pressure Alerts

Currently, it is not possible to configure alerts at specific tank pressures (e.g. 100 bar / 1500 psi).

Many divers use predefined pressure milestones during a dive for turn pressure, team checks, and gas management. The ability to create one or more custom tank pressure alerts would significantly improve situational awareness and safety.

Examples:

Alert at 100 bar
Alert at 70 bar
Alert at reserve pressure

Display Tank Pressure on Dive Compass Screen

Many divers use the compass screen for extended periods during navigation dives. Currently, the compass screen displays depth, dive time, and NDL, but not tank pressure.

Since air consumption is one of the most critical parameters during navigation, it would be extremely useful to allow tank pressure to be displayed on the compass screen, either:

As a fixed field,
Or as a configurable data field.

This would eliminate the need to repeatedly switch between the compass and primary dive screens while navigating.

Two Descents but only sync dives from one device?

I have both a Descent x50 and Mk2i.

I use the MK2i as a backup computer while diving.

I don't want to duplicate my dive logs.....is there any way to not have the MK2 (or X50) auto sync?

Gear Collection for Dive Computer

The first thing I thought when I saw the gear collection was, “Cool, finally something decent for the Descent MK2.” But it doesn't work for dive computers specifically. We're going on a one-week vacation with both rented and our own gear. We'll be doing 20 dives during that time. This is exactly where we need it—and nowhere else. Please, Garmin, make it compatible with dive computers too.

Seems this update has "killed" my Mk2i. Since I updated the akku does not last more than 20 hours. How can I get back to the old version (the one before 28.00)?

Please add a « Vibration only » dive mode

There is already user-made dive alerts that can be « vibration only », BUT all the hard-coded alerts (10min NDL, 5min NDL, entering, Deco, etc…) still make noise. If you want to remove all their sound, the only option is to go for the « silent diving mode » that removes all sounds but also all vibrations.

Can we have the in-between and I think more valuable mode « vibration only », that keeps a silent diving but still warns the user privately with vibration? That blows my mind it isn’t already available 🙃

Strength training profile whilst diving

Hi, all!

Not as much a bug as a possible hazard if one ommits predive checks... Went for a dive, preset my MK2 for for single/air but during the "fight" with sidemounts in the water somehow turned on the fitnes profile on the watch instead of diving profile.

At the 3m equipement/predive check I was able to stop the fitnes profile and manualy start the dive profile, so everthing OK, but this just additionally highlights the need for predive checks. Would be pain in the ass if I realised this at a greather depth 😃

Exporting Dives from Garmin to PADI - Best Options?

Im trying to figure out the best way to export my dive logs from my watch/dive app for import into PADI. I know manually is an option, but i have a ton of logs i want to get into PADI for verification so that i can at some point go for my DIve Master cert. There has to be a better way vs manually imputing.

"Restore from backup" date wrong

Hello,

for months now I am notice when restarting my watch that the "Restore from backup" date stays on August 19th.

Today I finally digged into this a bit more. I went into the settings and noticed that the last backup is from Monday (shown for the option "Backup now"), but not for the option "Restore from backup" right under it. It shows August 19th. Here's two photos. My watch is set to German.

Any idea? Known bug? User problem?

Heart rate measurement error after update 28.0

Since the 28.0 update, my wrist-based heart rate sensor hasn't been working properly. My heart rate spikes to abnormally high values for no reason, and I no longer trust the data.

I’ve tried everything: resetting the device, adjusting the strap position, etc. Has anyone else experienced this same issue?

T1 Transmitter Replacement Parts?

Hey all,

Recently purchased a brand new T1 transmitter and Mk2i package off ebay. Never used. I get it, replace batteries in the transmitter and dive. Well turns out the batteries I purchased we faulty (probably sitting on the shelf for the last decade) and it has corroded the inside of my battery housing. After contacting garmin they are will to give me a 30% discount on a T2 but thats more than i can afford.

My question is does anyone have any broken t1s laying around for parts (I need the battery housing portion) or advice on taking apart the battery housing to replace the contacts?

Feature Request – Ability to Disable Deep Stops on Garmin Descent MK2

Hello,

I would like to submit a feature request regarding the Garmin Descent MK2 dive computer.

Currently, deep stops are automatically applied during dives and cannot be disabled by the user. However, based on current diving practices and recommendations from several training agencies, the systematic use of deep stops is not always desired and, in some cases, is no longer recommended for certain dive profiles.

👉 Requested improvement:
Please add an option allowing users to enable or disable deep stops directly in the dive settings (similar to gradient factors, conservatism, or safety stop settings).

Benefits of this feature:

Allows the Descent MK2 to adapt to different decompression philosophies
Provides greater control for experienced and technical divers
Aligns the MK2 with features offered by other high-end dive computers
Enhances flexibility and advanced usability of the Descent MK2

This option could remain disabled by default, with an appropriate warning message, to ensure safe use for recreational divers.

Dive Start/Stop GPS

When I check the maps of my logged dives on my Descent MK2i, I only see the stop icon showing where the dive ended.

I thought the entry (start) point should also be visible.

Is there something I need to enable or set up for that?

I am unable to change my total dives on the Garmin dive app from zero even though I have yet to start using my mk3 watch. I have tried changing the number in the user settings, but it will not save… any suggestions?

SAC rate watch dive log vs app

Does anyone know why the dive log on the watch shows a different SAC and RMV vs the app? It's showing 11.9 on the watch log. The same dive in the app shows 15.7 on the app.

I see lots for the G2, Fenix and other Garmins but none for the Mk2i.

At the end of a dive, my MK2i went blank as if it had lost power. Despite recharging, it has not begun functioning. Power on/of does nothing.

Climb Pro mismatch with Garmin Connect

Hi all. I have been using my Garmin Descent as my bike computer recently and just noticed something a bit strange on a route yesterday. I used Garmin Connect to create a route which showed 5 climbs. I transferred it to the watch as normal and then saw in Climb Pro only three climbs. Climb Pro is set to show all climbs and the missing climb fits the criteria for a climb as shown on the garmin website:

Climb distance (in meters) multiplied by the percent of the average gradient should be greater than 3,500.
A climb must be a minimum of 500 meters in length.
Average gradient must be a minimum of 3%.

Interestingly another climb on the route that shows on garmin connect which doesn't fit the criteria doesn't show on climb pro.

Anyone got any ideas?
