Garmin Express map update error

Garmin Express does not seem to work properly with my Mk2i, constantly disconnecting and failing to update maps.

Get a response "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect"

First I see this.

And then this when the green dot indicates my device is connected

(which goes on for a long time)

And finally this

And the device is not connected?

Help.

  • I am sorry there is an issue. Please uninstall Garmin Express on your computer then download and install it again.

If you see your watch connecting and disconnecting from your computer based on the Green Dot Garmin Express is giving you, try using another charging/data cable.

  • Thanks Chris.

Did all of that, same issue/problem.

  • When your watch is directly plugged into your computer USB port and you check what your computer has to say about your watch, IE: Windows Explorer or Apple Mac Library, does your watch show connecting/disconnecting to your computer?

  • Hi Chris.

The watch itself doesn't show anything' just the charge status.

The computer shows it is connected.

Windows explorer shows the watch as well

  • Thank you for the pictures. In your initial post picture, the updates show all 3 regional golf courses image files that provide your watch with golf course images worldwide. When you open Garmin Express and it sees your watch connected, it automatically syncs to your Garmin Connect account. The error suggests it is strictly related to the sync and not the map updates but it is uncommon to see the error.

In your initial post above, you stated there is constant disconnection taking place with your watch connected. If you continue to see a connectivity issue, your sync error and not getting as far as downloading to update your maps is going to be directly related to the disconnection. Try cleaning the rear connection point on your watch and double check the ends of your charging/data cable to ensure all 4 pins are straight. If the connectivity issue continues, buy another charging/data cable to test.

If your watch continues to still sync daily to your Garmin Connect account using either Bluetooth through your Connect Mobile APP or through using Wi-Fi, you can rule out a potential corrupt file causing your sync issue.

Also, if you have another computer, you can add Garmin Express to it and confirm if the error is consistent. Since you have already uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Express on your primary computer, it is unlikely to be directly related to Garmin Express on your main computer but you are really testing whether or not the issue carries across suggesting further needs to be done with your watch.

  • Thank-you Chris.

I've tried cleaning the connections and using another cable I have, same issues.

Same issues when using another computer in the house.

My wife has a Garmin Venu and it has no issues whatsoever using Garmin Express.

I can sync through Garmin Connect using BT.  I "think" I can also do it through the watch using Wifi.  I say "think" as there have been several error messages reported on the watch such as, "unable to connect to service" and "sync failed" as well as today "sync in progress."

I tried again just a few moments ago and got as far as "preparing your device for map updates, this may take a few minutes" and then it crashed (disconnected) with this message.

    Rob

  • After it crashed, I left it plugged in and it reconnected and, after "looking for updates" (a long time), started to do this;

and then crashed again with this message

  • I had the Same issue. Just unplug watch and do an update from the watch and violala. Good luck
