How do I set the MK2i to add a deep stop at 50 feet for 3 min on dives to 80 ft or deeper?

I’ve seen studies that show the benefits of adding a deep stop on dives greater than 80 ft and tried to figure out how to set that up on the MK2i. The only setting in dive setup is the time for the safety stop. It doesn’t allow for adding an additional deep safety stop that I have seen. Any suggestions? This is for rec diving not tech diving.

  • The thinking on deep stops has evolved and they don't seem to be as beneficial as once thought.

For recreational diving within NDL there's no way to make the computer prompt you for a deep stop. But you can just stop wherever you like. For a technical dive you can set a custom GF Low. Play around with with Plan Dive activity to see the effects.

  • Deep "safety stops" have never been a thing. As said, deep "decompression" stops were a theoretical fad a few years ago, and have now largely been debunked.

The "deep stop" terminology generally refers to the practice of using deeper stops as part of a decompression plan - which pretty much excludes their applicability to rec diving.

If you arbitrarily stop at 50ft for 3 minutes, your "fast tissues" are actually absorbing nitrogen fast than your "slow tissues" are releasing it, essentially negating (or worsening) the "benefit" of a deep stop.

Adjusting your GF is the way to start your decompression profile deeper, but the way your question is asked implies that you don't know enough about decompression theory to consider messing around with decompression algorithms.
