Advise on MK2 use for first time diving.

Hi guys!

Recently got hold of the MK2 watch and very exited. Have had Fenix lines and a few other Garmin watches before so well familiar with interface and also have done plenty of dives.

Planning for a dive trip soon and use this as my main dive computer.

My question is focused on "any nasty surprises" with the watch settings or "I should have done that before gone to dive" and any settings best to enable or disable during flight etc. Like "pool mode" which I use before starting my swimming session as I go deeper than 1.2m under water on some sets and don't want the watch to start logging as dives.

Also going through painstaking process of moving my logbook to digital logbook on Garmin dive app. Assume once all dives are logged some 43, then next dive MK2 will recognise and continue to 44, 45, 46 etc.

Many thanks all!!

  • Keep in mind that if you don't manually start the desired dive activity before getting into the water, when it automatically goes into dive mode it will select the most recent mode. Which may not be what you expect, especially if you haven't taken the unit into the water before or have been exploring its features. So I'd be sure to manually start and exit a Single/Multi-Gas dive activity (or whatever you deem appropriate) before reaching your destination, to ensure it doesn't unexpectedly choose Gauge mode... which would then lock you out of any mode which tracks tissue loading for 24 hours.

I'd suggest always starting dive mode explicitly in any event, since the Mk2 won't capture your starting GPS coordinates when triggered automatically. But I've occasionally skipped that step inadvertently, so it's good to be sure of which mode it will start in.

  • ahh, brilliant!

Thank you for taking the time and adding this information. I am sure to take on board all your suggestions!

    Many thanks!!

  • Pretty fool proof. Remember to set your gas mix if you're using something other than air. The dive plan is nice for comparing NDLs with your buddy before hitting the water. Dive numbers will continue from your last log entry, just like in your example, and you can even change them afterward and repeat dive numbers if needed (e.g. if a surfacing followed by a descent get counted by Garmin as two separate dives).

If you have a transmitter, make sure to set your cylinder volume and working pressure before your dive for an accurate RMV and SAC rate.

Have a safe and fun dive!
