Descent MK2 Vs. Quatix 6

Hi Folks,

A bit of a newbie here, so please excuse the relative ignorance of my question.

I recently got a Quatix 6 which seems amazing as I am an active sailor. However, my current boat doesnt have any Garmin tech on it, so until i upgrade my boat, i am not sure how much use I will get out of the watch.

That said, i am also an active scuba diver, so Id love a watch that i could also use for dives. Thus, the Descent MK2 has caught my eye. I guess my question is, as i understand it, both the Quatix and the Descent are built off the Fenix 6. Thus, would i be able to add all of the functionality of the Quatix 6 to the Descent MK2??

Any and all insight for a Garmin newbie would be most appreciated.

Thanks all!

  • My comments were regarding the native sailing apps on the quatix, theyre all available on IQ store for download and compatible with descent, whether you want them is another issue there are better 3rd party apps imo than some of those garmin ones,  countdown timer and tac assist are downloadable but not seen virtual start, all of those would be preferable as data fields rather than apps tbh.

I downloaded anchor, boat data and autopilot and they all work fine on descent

  • The only reason that you can't have the ultimate watch that makes it all is because Garmin doesn't want to.... Imagine if you could put all the special features that the Quatix has to a fenix 6... Then how the heck they could sell thw Quatix??

The marketing that they have prevents all of that. Simply they create the fenix line that has every sport available to the forunner series and also includes many other features in a nice package (maps, jumpmaster etc.)... The fenix applies to the majority of people who want to have it almost all. Then there are those persons with special needs (pilots, sailors, divers and military personnel) and for them Garmin makes special watches that have everything that the fenix line has and also have some special features thst comply to their needs... Sure some of them combine some of these and they want a watch thst does it all, the need for this watch will always be there but for now if you are a sailor and diver you got to have both watches if you want every functionality!!!

The question is.... Do you really need that much?

  • Theres no conspiracy, the aesthetic difference btween quatix, fenix and descent is just that, the software can and is downloadable on all, mostly

  • I have the descent mk2 and you don't know what are you talking about.... No other garmin watch is capable of scuba diving except the specific line of the descents

  • Imagine if you coulfld put all the special slfeatures that the Quatix has to a fenix 6... Then how the heck they could sell thw Quatix??

    Youre arguing with yourself 9058036!

  • You can put some of them from the IQ store and I'm pretty sure that is possible to have it all from thw factory but I also think if you could put everything there then nobody would buy the Quatix... I mean for what other reason except the prize?

They would have to low it's prize a lot or to sell thw descent even more expensive

But about the special dive features of the descent, well it's not only about the software that makes it capable and accurate!
