Software features like in the instinct 3

Hello everybody,

now with the release of the instinct 3 series will the descent g1 update to get similar features?

A big disappointment in the dive computer is the organization of the widgets, the new instinct 3 has the possibility to “summarize” all the widgets, despite scrolling down in all the widgets to find what you want to check.

  • I’d assume the “G2” variant that’s based on the I3 will have that organizational option.

The Instinct lineup has so much potential but Garmin is definitely slow walking its development. Gotta make those shareholders happy with the Apple model of minimal upgrades every few years.

  • G1 is based on the hardware of Instinct 2, hence it comes with only 32 MB of memory, while Instinct 3 has 128 MB, and from that only around 12 MB remains free for the user. It means there is absolutely no way the software of Instinct 3 and all its features could ever fit into the memory of G1. You will have to wait for the next generation of G1.

  • User memory has nothing to do with system memory. The user interface has already been modified on some occasion, for example the training readiness function was not there before. Screens have been added within that function including submenus to get deep in that topic.

i remember that at the beginning the move of the compass was very delayed and with I don’t know which update it was improved ( for example).

This is only discussion for an ask or a wish because the device (software and processor) should be enough (it was before)

i think that everybody here understand my “complaint “ about scroll down to I don’t know how many widgets instead of creating groups like health, navigation, dive, training… for example.

  • User memory has nothing to do with system memory.

The 32 MB of memory of G1  vs 128 MB at Instinct 3 is not the user memory. It is the total available memory containing the firmware, the OS, the CIQ apps, and user memory. All together. At Instinct 3 the system parts occupy ~100 MB, hence no chance to fit it into 32 MB of G1
