How many activity sessions will the Descent G1 store?

I intend to use my Descent G1 for multi-day trekking and want to record each day as a separate activity (ie, not as a 'resume later"). I will not have cell phone connectivity. How many days of activities (or activity sessions) will the watch store before each one is over-written?

  • Depends on many factors:

    • The recording mode - Smart vs. Every Second
    • The activity mode - standard vs. UltraTrack vs Expedition
    • The type of the activity
    • Number of options like HRV, temperature,...
    • Number of CIQ data fields adding custom data
    • Free storage memory on your watch

You can check how much space an average activity takes (find them in the folder //GARMIN/Activity on the watch), then calculate how much space it would proportionally take for the full day, and then divide the available free space on the storage with the calculated size of the full day activity, and you get the approximate number of days. Leave a safety margin of some 50% for temporary files, and diverse other metrics, and you should get the idea.

For maximizing the free storage capacity you can use the Smart recording, disable temperature and HRV recording (if not needed), disabling Connect IQ data fields, if not needed, using Ultra track (recording once a minute) or the Expedition mode (recording once 15 - 90 minutes). You should clean up the following folders, to make the needed room:

    • //GARMIN/Activity/ - all files
    • //GARMIN/RemoteSW/ - all files
    • //GARMIN/Debug/ - all files
    • //GARMIN/Courses/ - remove unneeded courses
    • //GARMIN/Workouts/ - remove unneeded workouts
    • //GARMIN/Text/ - remove all unneeded languages

You could also remove some unneeded Connect IQ apps, if there are any
