Is the D2 Air X10 a good aviation watch?

So I currently own the Venu 2S Plus - my first Garmin...I like it but have issues with the altimeter drift that it has. I fly PPG and use the PPG app to display/log my flight parameters. However, I seem to always chase the altimeter inaccuracies even with recalibrating(generally manually to the airport elevation as the GPS is never quite right). Anyways I am looking for something better and started investigating the D2 Series of watches. Thought I would ask for other opinions of this watch as well as other suggestion that I might look at before buying yet another watch.

Any ideas and suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance...

  • Hi,

From my experience (I own one), the altimeter is accurate and the auto calibration from METAR works really well.

The main problem with this watch is about Garmin's (non) ability to properly support it over time. As an example, the aviation database update is broken for some time, and Garmin did nothing to fix it. This watch faces a very typical issue Garmin is facing for years now: they release multiple watchs every year, but are not able to give proper updates. The D2 Air X10 inherits 99% of its capabilities from Venu2 plus. The Venu2 received mutiple updates, while the X10 received almost nothing.

Long answer made short: I would not recommand it to anyone.

  • Thanks for your reply. Do you have other recommendations beyond this particular watch? And even another brand would be OK. thanks in advance.
