Can we create a flight plan without Garmin Pilot?

Hi!

In the manual (pg. 10) it says that we "can" create a flight plan using Garmin Pilot, but not that we "must" use Garmin Pilot.

Is it possible to previously setup a sequence of way points to easily follow in flight (using the HSI) without GP?

Also, can we include CUSTOM way points to its database to be easier to use in these plans? (with NO GP)

(I'm deciding if I will purchase it next week - the idea is to use as a totally independent device, as navigation backup, and not needing to have a GP subscription)

Tks!

  • you will need a Garmin Pilot subscription to create a flight plan and send the plan to the D2 watch however you can use the direct to function on the watch and navigate to your planned destination without using or purchasing Garmin Pilot

every aviation related function on the watch works without Garmin Pilot except the ability to create a flight plan

  • You can create a flight plan on the watch itself. You will need to go to the Fly app->left center button, scroll down to navigation to select the flight planning option. It is not obvious, but it is there. If you GP, you can create a plan in GP and transfer to D2.

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. I clicked the FLY app (that one that tracks flights, right?), before starting any flight, and clicking the RIGHT center button (there are not left buttons) all I see is my favorite airport information. Swapping down I have only two options: LiveTrack, and Configurations, with several adjustments, but none related to flight plans or routes. What am I doing wrong?

  • I am sorry, I did not realize you are using D2 Air. If you don't see the flight planning option, maybe it is not there on D2 Air. I was referencing to D2 Delta/Mach1 watches.

Hi! Love your youtube videos. I do have a subscription on garmin pilot and used it for years until recently i dont see an option to send flight plan from the app to my watch. D2 CHARLIE. Could you please provide the steps. Its an android phone

  • Sorry, I do not have an android phone or D2C to try out. I would think may be try restarting the watch/phone/app to see if the issue has been fixed? If not, i would recommend contacting Garmin aviation support.

  • Yes, you can! - Well, at least kind of. Get "Garmin Basecamp" first. Then get a nice map. (Google "open streetmap garmin basecamp") After installing open streetmap, you can place waypoints to your favorite airfields. Then, connect your USB-Cable to the watch and basecamp will show your watch. You can now drag and drop your newly created waypoints to the watch-folder. Disconnect your watch and you will find your new waypoints under NAVIGATE >> Saved Locations. You will be able to fly to these waypoints.

You can create a "track" with basecamp as well and send it to the watch, but the watch won't show it, as it's locked to the "connext feature" of Garmin Pilot. You can't modify the shown connext-flightplan as well, but you can backup it.
