D2 Charlie Crashed

Like others with the Bravo, My D2 Charlie has crashed. The band broke within a year of purchase and I never swim with it or get it wet. The Watch has always had problems with intermittent updates with the Garmin App on my Macbook. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.

Charging is unpredictable and the contacts require cleaning frequently to get good contact. I spent $800 on this watch a few years ago. The other issue is battery use. For whatever reason the GPS will just kick in uncommanded and start draining the battery. That happens at very inopportune moments, like today in Kuwait when I looked down at my watch and saw a blank screen. Its now been on the charger for over an hour and nothing, nada, zip.

So now I am stuck on deployment in the Middle East without a watch. I should have just done what I have always done and bought a cheapo G shock. They always last and they run 1/10th or less of what this watch (paperweight) did.

Bummer...

  • Rather than complaining here, I would reach out to Garmin Aviation Support directly via phone. I have owned a D2 Bravo, D2 Charlie, D2 Delta and now a D2 Air (plus a Fenix 5 and Fenix 5+) and have not had any major/catastrophic issues like you are describing. The Fenix series on which the D2 series is based is pretty solid and your issues aren't what I would consider a typical experience. I suspect that Aviation Support will be able to help you out.
