Don’t have info on when, but I asked DC Rainmaker, he said most certainly D2E will be released.
The D2 development team is small (I believe it remains at just a single developer)
This may explain a few things from the diving end of things.
The MARQ Aviator is out since beginning of Oktober, so I don't think there will be a D2 Echo
Actually, the MARQ Aviator has been out since March 2019 or so. However, the MARQ Aviator…

Gotcha, good to know. The D2 Charlie and the D2 Delta were released around a year apart, and the D2 Delta was released a year ago now, so I'm hoping it might be soon, I'm thinking I will hold out for the Echo if its not too long. From what I could find the D2 Delta PX was released a month or so after the Fenix 5X Plus was announced as well. So, maybe soon...?
You can always tell when a new D2 hardware device is coming out because the time between firmware releases for the previous device (in this case D2D series) increases or becomes non-existent. The D2 development team is small (I believe it remains at just a single developer) so the new device takes priority. This is unfortunate, especially so and frustrating when there are issues outstanding, such as the density altitude calculation errors and the fact that the "first time user" tips bubble/help continually show up after every reboot and/or sync.
dbrobert, I currently have an older Fenix and have been waiting to make the switch to the D2 series with the Echo's release, but it sounds like you are suggesting that you are starting to see a drop off in firmware releases for the D2D, which may suggest a new hardware model, the D2E, may be around the corner?
Yeah, if I was a gambler that would be my bet. However, I am unsure as to whether or not I will upgrade to the D2E from my D2D. I prefer my own METAR/TAF widget, my Temperature widget calculates the proper density altitude and I'm working on a ConnectIQ-based Fly app. The only thing I'd really be missing is the NEXRAD and the Connext functionality which I don't really use anyway.
I would say that the release of a D2 Echo is now imminent, based on the fact that the D2D update released yesterday was 2.5 months in the waiting and all that was fixed and/or added (for aviation specific functionality) was the tips/help bubbles. The rest of the changes come from the common Fenix-series code base and so all that was achieved was a single fix.
Awesome, thanks for the insight dbrobert. The D2D was released month after the Fenix 5 Plus, so maybe in a month or so, hopefully before CES 2020. I may also look at firmware update dates for the D2C and how they correlated to the release of the D2D.

Actually, the MARQ Aviator has been out since March 2019 or so. However, the MARQ Aviator is part of a high-end line that will not replace the D2 series.
