D2 Delta - version 3.00

Garmin has released version 3.00 for the D2 Delta series. From Garmin's "Updates & Downloads" pages for the various D2 Delta devices (see below for individual links), the consolidated list of changes are below; where a feature only applies to a specific device it is so identified.

Changes made from version 2.20 to 3.00:
  • Added support for Connect IQ SDK v3.0.
  • Added abnormal heart rate alerts. Enable these in Heart Rate widget > Heart Rate options > Abnormal HR alert. An abnormal heart rate will be detected if your heart rate exceeds the entered threshold for an extended period of time while sedentary.
  • Made improvements to pool swim distance accuracy.
  • Improved Bluetooth connection reliability when using an iOS device.
  • Fixed a critical issue where music would intermittently stop playing over headphones.
  • Fixed an issue where Total Ascent and Descent could be too low for certain activities.
  • Made Improvements to Connext flight plan transfers.
  • Added coverage information to the Nav. Data start-up screen.
  • Fixed a potential issue with Flight Timer logic when starting FLY activity with Auto-Fly.

See the next post for the list of bugs and such that I am maintaining.
  • I've started a list of bugs, requests, fixes and workarounds that I will try to maintain. I say "try" because at this point in time I do not have any of the D2 Delta devices so I am unable to contribute to the list personally nor can I confirm anything that is reported or listed by Garmin as fixed.

I've bolded anything that would generally consider to be a serious issue that impedes use of the watch or included functionality (ie. reboots versus display or other issues). Reply below with comments and I'll keep the list updated.

    Outstanding issues / bugs:
    • [WATCH] Altimeter hardware does not seem to properly handle rapid elevation changes, either from lag or hanging (also affects Fenix 5X+)
    • [WATCH] Running Dynamics drops out around two minute mark when phone is connected; workaround: disable connection to phone while running (also affects Fenix 5X+)
    • [GPS] cannot receive a GPS fix within the flight deck of an Airbus A-320 (and several other aircraft)
    • [WIDGETS] Altimeter widget ignores the widget configuration for display units of "feet" when general watch config is set to metric
    • [WIDGETS] METAR widget uses watch setting for METAR visibility -- add configuration option for "visibility" to "Aviation Units" section
    • [WIDGETS] METAR widget displays blanks screen if station (nearest or manually entered) does not have a published METAR (eg. CYCZ)
    • [WIDGETS] Temperature widget does not display the proper density altitude when using metric units on the watch
    • [CONNEXT] Garmin Pilot does not receive the altitude from the watch

    Feature requests:
    • [WIDGETS] METAR widget only displays cloud coverage (sky) information when there is a measured ceiling but should display FEW and SCT when no ceiling is present

    Fixed issues:
    • none at this time
Old issues [could not be confirmed or appear to work as expected]:
    • none at this time
  • I just got a D2 Delta (47 mm version). I am still testing it. Will report back.
  • Ghost Rider I'm thinking of ugrading from the D2 Delta titanium to the Charlie px. On your Delta have you noticed any improvement s on screen quality? For instance is the resolution improveo on the radar etc
  • sorry had those reversed from the charlie to the delta

Orcawealth, the screen looks slightly better on the Delta (47 mm version) compared to the Charlie but not by much.
  • my understanding is that the displays are exactly the same, every version has the same and same (resolution / dimension) as the Charlie. [TABLE]

net net the bezel is changing not the display...

check out the brightness setting to get it better indoor...

  • thanks for all this info guys. I was trying to somehow to justify the upgrade from the charlie as I really would like to have music on the watch. Hard to justify when they are clearly to similar... ill just keep carrying my phone when i run.
  • I did detailed testing of various options that seem to impact the altimeter (pressure) recordings on the watch. Here are my observations/bugs:
    - Altimeter set continuous calibration during the activity: The altitude appeared to be not catching up with the change in altitude. The altitude also appears to be much lower than actual altitude (at times upto 800 feet). In fact, after I landed, the altitude kept on dropping.
    - Autocalibration off, autocalibration set to begenning of activity, smart recording, and one second recording: Under these settings, the altimeter just does not seem to be catching up. This was similar to the issues reported earlier with D2 Charlie and other Fenix watches.
    - Using GPS altimeter instead of pressure altitude: Altitude appeared to be very close to the actual altitude without any lag.

So, it looks like there is a serious issue with the continuous altimeter calibration which seems to be compounding the existing issue with the altimeter recording. Until Garmin fixes these issues, the best solution appears to be using the GPS altimeter.

I just wanted report/confirm that D2 Delta also has the altimeter issue similar to D2 Charlie. See my track from this weekend flight below.
The airport elevation is 1000 feet. You can see that, according to Garmin, I ended up 146 feet below MSL when I landed.:rolleyes:

I made a short video on the features of the D2 Delta watch. Here is the clip, if you are interested in watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbchh12YLI4

Exactly the same for me ! -104 ft...
I noticed that Garmin's engineers doesn't learn from their previous errors...The problem of units depending of type of activity already existed on D2 Bravo...
  • Here is the response that I got from Garmin regarding the Altimeter issue & fuel tank reminder logic:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

The watch will calibrate from the GPS starting point. So it is possible that your GPS was calibrated at a lower GPS altitude before starting the flight. To receive the most accurate altitude you will want to use the GPS altimeter.

You have the most current software for the device.

The Fuel Tank Reminder is simply just an audible or vibration reminder for you to check your fuel tank gauges and a specified interval you set. This can be used as a supplemental aid to pilots from using one fuel tank for too long during flight.

We have included a link to the owners manual for your review. Pages 32 & 33 will be helpful for sensor settings.
