Garmin announces the D2 Delta

Thanks, Douglas. I saw the ad this morning. I am glad that they introduced three different sizes. They have also added music, garmin pay, and Galileo support in addition to the features you mentioned. If the hardware is similar of F5+ series, this series features faster processing speeds compared to D2C. The introductory prices keep going up with every new version. I don't see myself using music or garmin pay. So I am keeping my Charlie for now.

Since Galileo support is already in the latest Fenix 5X beta I don't see any reason that the D2C won't get it also. Yes, I agree that while music is a good feature for runners it's of little interest as a pilot (and I run also but it's still not of interest) -- I think it's really only there because the base platform (Fenix 5 Plus series) has it. Garmin Pay is neat but isn't enough to warrant a switch (yet), plus it's not even available in Canada.

Also, it's worth noting that the Fenix 5+ forums have mention of the elevation issue as well so I'm sure that the D2 Delta likely has the problem as well right now.

I also think so! It's a funny thing that the main tool for a pilot doesn't work! I also tried latest 3.21 beta For 5 Plus 2 weeks ago and it is affected by altimeter bug ! I have reported the problem to beta team but it seems like to talk to a wall... Now i have moved to Suunto 9, altimeter works flawlessly! Maybe they want to lose all their customers, i don't know.... but it doesn't seems to me a normal behavior... Also Forerunner 935 is affected so all Fenix 5 line, Forerunner 935, tactix, D2...

I currently own a Fenix 3, for me the upgrade to the D2 Delta is worth it.
Starting from the Writs/Optical HR rate, Pulse oxy over the aviation features.
Don;t think I would be willing to wait aprox 1.5 yeras for the D2 Echo (as D2 generations seem to be 1.5 years apart)

If you end up getting one, please report back on your thoughts on Delta (and pictures, if possible). I think you will notice a significant difference from F3 (I used to own a D2 Bravo which was based on F3). For me it is not a big upgrade from Charlie.

So if the aviator also doing some sports, can he just have one Fenix + watch for all activities instead of one for aviation and one for sport activities?

if you are looking to upgrade your F3 and you're interested in GA, moving for a D2 is definitely a good idea.

the convergence you're describing here ( add GA functionality into the F5) is what happened the opposite way by adding Multi-Sport functionality to the D2 Charlie for example.

I own the Charlie and I'm able to track all the sports I do in the same menu present on F5 as well as great GA app (barometer, altimeter, flight planning, Metar/TAF, Airport info, weather Radar and so on...).

You know, I wonder the same thing. Why can't they let me install the D2 software on a Fenix or Forerunner 935? But, I know they will still have to market to the aviation crowd as a specialty product (and charge lot of more for it). I tried using a Fenix 5 and Forerunners 935 for logging my flights. There are widgets, apps, and datafields available that will let you use it for flight logging. Unfortunately, GC limits how much data you can show. For example, GC will not show the ground speed data above ~143 mph if you are using Fenix/Forerunner for logging flights. D2 series makes things much easier to log flights and in-built aviation database is a plus. So, I caved in and bought a Charlie. The main complaint that I have on the D2 series vs the Fenix/Forerunner series is the lack of timely software updates.

Garmin has announced the D2 Delta aviation watch, expected to be available in August and coming in 3 varieties. The new watches appear to be based on the new Fenix 5+ platform; D2 Delta PX (Fenix 5X+), D2 Delta (Fenix 5+) and the D2 Delta S (Fenix 5S+) and thus have all of the features of the Plus series, including on-device streaming music and Garmin Pay.

On the aviation side there are some new aviation features: notifications for pressure altitude, cross track errors and fuel tank timers. Plus the larger Delta PX will have wrist-based Pulse Ox to help monitor oxygen saturation levels (only available on the Delta PX).

Hi DBRobert . Im thinking of buying this watch for hand gliding , My problem is , the D2 Delta doesn't have a variometer with sound ( Paramount for XC and even ridging ) are there accessories I can link via ANT or Bluetooth to the D2 ? If not , does the D2 integrate with any apps on the android store , baring Garmin Pilot ? Thanks fin advance for you help
