MARQ series bluetooth performance (music)

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else is seeing a similar type of behaviour when attempting to play music and run/ride. I own a MARQ Expedition and have so far tried using:

Jabra Elite Active 65T Bluetooth 5 (wouldn't stay connected after switching on/off; infrequent dropouts);

-->had the Jabras exchanged for a brand new pair- same problem!

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Bluetooth 5 (dropouts when an activity is initiated)

TaoTronics TT-BH07 (dropouts when activity started)

TaoTronics TT-8H16 (dropouts when activity started)

Anker Slim+ Bluetooth 5 (dropouts when activity started)

Plantronics Backbeat Fit 3100- dropouts

Aftershokz Trekz Air- hurray, almost no dropouts but horrible!!!!! sound-->returned

In common for all of the above- perfect when listening to music in watch mode; various degrees of cutting out when starting any activity

Any ideas? I am really puzzled how pretty much everything seems to work fine with the new Forerunner FR945 (going by the earphones impressions thread)

Cheers,

Nick

  • Yes, tried both arms, no big difference. I just did a treadmill run with a Stryd and a HRM-Run- not a single dropout..

    This is just too weird!

  • Thank you for testing it again on the treadmill.

It sounds like I need to spend some time writing a support article about wireless interference but until I get that published, feel free to look out on the web about wireless interference. There is a lot of information on this, and they give some great examples too. After you do that, you can keep an eye out for locations you notice it over and over and/or things that could be affecting it at the same time.

Plus, I bet a lot of people in these forums could provide you some resources too since we have tons of smart people that like complex troubleshooting and new technology. So if anyone does have a good resource, feel free to share it.

  • Another thing to add. I have never experienced good performance with this watch--the most music has played without skipping is 6-7 minutes and back to once every few seconds.

I have run in the city and out in the countryside, while hiking and not seeing a big difference between these two scenarios.

What I continue to not understand is how others are reporting good performance, while I find the watch utterly useless for recording an activity and listening to music......

  • I wouldn't say lucky, running with your head tilted left doesn't lead to good running form ;)

I am not sure if the watch is trying to connect to any wifi connection while running in neighborhoods as the drop outs are much worse (and longer) while near houses versus out in the open.

  • Lol, I see what you mean.

  • Another thing to add- problems with music playback ONLY occur when the GPS is on. No matter where I am, whether that's the city or the local park/countryside village etc, tracking an activity with GPS results in music cutting out.

Come on Garmin, it's been months since I reported this issue. My watch was sent in for inspection ages ago and there is still no solution?!!!

  • Did Garmin ever come up with a reliable troubleshooting solution for music cut outs during running?

Having music cut out a lot during runs on the beach with Apple AirPods v2 and BackBeat 3100. Worse on the 3100.

I’m using an Adventurer purchased recently. Problem happens every time I run, but only when I run. Walking music is fine.

  • Dang. Very frustrating. I know there have been updates that were supposed to make things more stable.

I have had an Expedition ('Adventurer') for over a year and a half and used four or five different bluetooth headphones with it - never once had a problem. I primarily use music and podcasts - all via Spotify. Just lucky I guess?

  • I'm installing the beta software to see if that makes a difference (not expecting it to). If that doesn't work I'll try a full reset. And if that doesn't work will contact Garmin about a repair or replacement.

  • Beta software did not solve the dropout problem.

Interestingly tried running in a different location (forests) and dropouts were not as bad as the beach, but still to frequent to be acceptable.

So going to try to reset next I guess.
