Map Visualization Issue

Hello hello!

This is an issue that my Instinct has been dragging along for as long as I can remember. I was hoping for it to get solved with the various updates but, alas, as the numbers go up, it's always still here. Here's the gist of it:

Whenever I'm navigating and the course/waypoints are right in front of me, the line/icons get cut short a few pixels ahead of the arrow, as you can see from this screenshot:

(the line should keep going, but it's simply cut short and anything past that is invisible)

If instead of facing my course I turn around to the side by a few degrees, the line appears once again, fully visible

Anybody else having this issue? No amount of zooming in or out seems to fix it, nor does switching the colour scheme or fiddling with the datafields. The issue is also present in every activity type.

  • Hey Chris!
No prob, I figured that a video would've helped in clearing things out.

Anyway, If you look carefully at the video, at 0:36 I do exactly what you suggest: I press the top right GPS button to actually begin navigating, and the line still truncates as soon as I look at the direction. I honestly do not think this is normal, can you replicate it aswell?

Edit: This might be important: I just noticed how the "truncation" only happens if the line I'm looking at is towards East or West. If I try to replicate the issue but the line I'm facing is towards South or North, the watch seems to handle it just fine.

  • My Instinct behaved exactly like your own and I saw the same pattern when I rotated around. I am now curious what others are seeing too. It doesn't feel like a bug but it does catch your attention.

  • I have the same behavior on my Instinct and this is often annoying when navigating a course.
The display of the watch is already not big so it would be helpful to use it entirely during navigation.

For example I sometimes have a doubt on the path to follow and I need to check if the path will more or less go left or right a few hundreds of meters ahead and compare to what I actually see.
In that circumstances I need to stop and turn the watch so that the path ahead is displayed in the corner instead of being truncated.

, you are saying this truncation is a normal behavior but I honestly don't understand why the path should be truncated instead of being displayed on the whole screen.
Moreover this truncation does not occur in every direction (only West and East but not North and South) and not in all the parts of the screen (only at the top). So for me this really looks like a bug.

  • I see the same - in the West-East direction truncated line:

While the South-North direction is O.K.:

Thank you for the additional examples given. Thank you everyone for posting examples and information.

I am sending a Private Message to each of you. If you are willing, I would like to add you to the case I am writing. We will have our Instinct series engineers look into the examples provided. (IE: Bug? By design - to help determine what direction you are facing?)

Thank you to all of you.
