Heart monitor stops working randomly

Hello everyone,

I have had my intinct for about eight months. Over the last few weeks I've noticed that the heart monitor just stops working. I always keep the watch updated,  regular restarts and clear any excessive memory build up. I didnt really have an issue until the latest update.

In order to fix it ;  I have to restart my watch multiple times while manually turning the heart monitor on and off through setting until it comes back on.

Is anyone else have this issues or know of a fix?

It worked like 12 hours and now its stopped working again. I didn’t even have Bluetooth on my phone so it’s not GC fault.

  • Since 12.20 I have only noticed the sensor locks to my pace more frequently than before, but I think it is because also winter has come where I live and my hands are cold all the time, which means lower blood flow, which makes it much harder for the sensor. In short, nothing I wouldn't have expected.

On the other hand, I don't look at my watch all the time, especially when I am not doing a sports activity. So, by saying it stops working, what is it that you observe? Does it show extraordinary heart rate? Does it show the current heart rate, but the history is missing? Or is the sensor completely off (the green light is off)?

  • after update 12.20 maybe an illusion of cold weather I dont know but there is a sudden stop on wrist monitor and resist not to work or going on working after I take it off. there is some bug deadly bug and must be dealt in sorry for the last update very very sorry.

  • There definitely seems to be something going on lately.  I’ve had my Instinct for a while now and I’ve generally been quite pleased with the HRM.  They tend to drop out now and then but on the whole performance was good (and better than my old TomTom).  Recently however it seems to lose my pulse completely or record at what seems like a much lower HR than I would expect for the effort level.  It could be that I have got a lot fitter but I’m not convinced.  Something odd is going on.

  • I have just started having a similar issue.  Mine happens overnight when I take the watch off.  When I put it back on, it will lock in a heartrate and show that heartrate - regardless of what I do - even if I remove it.  Placing it on charge seems to reset it - sometimes.

  • A couple of weeks ago, mine monitor would stop working when I put it on the charger.  Then if I went into settings and shut it off, then back on it would work.  As of two days ago, it quit working altogether.  Not happy!!!  Only had this for 13 months.  For the money spent on this watch, it should not be having sensor issues that quickly.  Note....I have not damaged the watch or struck it hard against anything.

  • Greetings.

Was this issue sorted out, mine is giving me maximum 79 as and when it happens that it decides to work and no steps count either.

The cadence is one straight red line and the zones all at 0 %.

I have read through most of the posts but I haven't seen any solution.

  • It looks to have been sorted out in the last update for me. Try the below as it helped me previously.

    1. Ensure all your data is backed up to the Garmin app (cloud), then reset your watch, then resync all your settings back from the app.

    2. Restart your watch before your activity

  • This worked for me. thanks!
Now my wrist HR, sleep data, stress data, body battery data are comming back. Nice.

    Steps:

    on phone:
Menu -> Garmin Devices -> Instinct Solar -> General -> disable wrist heart rate

    on watch:
Menu -> Settings -> Sensors & Accessories -> Wrist Heart Rate -> turn off -> exit menus
    sync watch with phone
    turn watch off
    turn watch on
    sync watch with phone
Menu -> Settings -> Sensors & Accessories -> Wrist Heart Rate -> turn to auto -> exit menus

Now my wrist HR worked, and so also Sleep, Stress and Body Battery.
    Thanks again!

  • This same thing is happening to my watch. Same timeline.
