Watch crashes and restart itself in running/walk mode (GPS enabeled). I get screen with GARMIN letters come on and then screen with RESUME RUN, PAUSE RUN, STOP ETC (or is it watch crushing!?)

This happened today within 5 km maybe 5-6 times. I have to press resume every time. It makes me mad!

I noticed, that if weather is sunny - no problems, everything works fine. But if it's cloudy or rainy - I keep loosing GPS. It's second time I have this issue and both times it was very cloudy. Today also cloudy with small rain.

I have firmware version 9.20 and in settings I had GPS ONLY. If I put GPS+ GLONASS OR ULTRATRACK - will this solve the problem?

I bought this watch to use primarily for running but it's totally useless if it will loose GPS in running mode. Is it firmware issue or what? My old forerunner 230 never had any issues with GPS!

Another crash in walking regime. I hate this watch. Spend whole day trying to resolve issue with no success. This will be last purchase from Garmin brand. Tomorrow I will have to go 200 km to bring watch to store for guarantee. Then within 3 weeks they should give answer.

I bet you could send it to the reseller, or perhaps even directly to Garmin, for the replacement. Choosing a local dealer, or a reseller with reasonable warranty/replacement policy is a good idea when buying technology. No brand can offer 100% flawless products, so there is always a chance you'll need to apply the warranty, hence selecting a reseller where you can exchange the goods easily and quickly, is always an important factor. Definitely more important than saving ten or twenty bucks finding the cheapest offer.

I live in Estonia. I bought from official Garmin dealer in my country. I can send by post, but during latest delivery issues I don't want take a risk. Also I want to explain in person what is going on with this watch. But no matter what I'm off from Garmin. They will fix it or exchange after investigation, but as I sad I lost my trust to Garmin. I paid 300 euros for product , that fail miserably.

Yes, it is comprehensible, after this personal experience. However, it is an exeptional case, and it can happen (and does happen) with devices of any brand. That's why warranty exists.

I'm not the only one with the same problem. Check Garmin Instinct group on FB. Looks like it's hardware issue..? This model is faulty probably . I can't explain it another way, as all manipulation with firmware and settings bring no solution.

  • Most problems with crashing during navigation, reported by other users, came due to a bug in the firmware, and it is resolved in the latest beta firmware. Your case seems to be entirely different. If it really happens only in rainy weather, then it looks like a leak in the sealing, and you should apply the warranty and have it replaced as already advised earlier.

  • Can you go to Menu-Settings-About and check what's the GPS version? And since you are there, scroll all the way down and make sure the EPO is current and not expired. Here is mine

I experienced something similar yesterday, but for me this was a first time thing and I did not mange to replicate it yet. The screen just shows GARMIN and then it ask to resume. For me the new thing was that I added a course. Do you use a course for your runs/walks? Maybe that's where the problem lays.
