Instinct crash and reboot during activity

Hello!

Anybody else experiencing crashes and reboots during activities/navigations?

I've noticed it happening quite often really, today I was running 12km and it managed to crash twice. True enough the Instinct picks up right where it left but it's still annoying.

Am I the only one with this? Should I worry about it? Ways to work on the issue?

The waypoint name can be 15 bytes long. Garmin web connect.garmin.com does not allow names more than 15 characters long, but allows UTF-8 characters, which are 2 bytes long. So a name 15 characters long…

Yes, you'd need one of the HRMs with the "store and forward" feature.

Another crash today (without reboot). This time crash happens (probably) due to loosing phone connection. Custom workout (without unicode symbols) started via "Training calendar"

Yes, correct, but this is problem also on other Garmin devices with wider unicode support, and people often search the forums, not seing that the thread refers to a specific device. And also the Instinct APAC version certainly supports different unicode subsets than the standard Instinct. This is why I thought, it may interest some people, wondering why their unicode names crash their Garmin device, despite being much shorter than what they calculated that should still fit in.

In my case though, I've never used UTF-8 characters in my waypoints. As a matter of fact in that specific instance, i didn't set up any waypoints at all, which means something else triggered the crash.

Today I started an hiking activity following a course (synced via Garmin Explore).

Not only it took almost 5 minutes from clicking the start button to show any map, but it also crashed almost immediately. Once restarted it worked fine for the rest of the activity.

Definitely not a reliable device, at least with 7.0 firmware.

Yesterday it crashed again while doing a power training. More or less crashed at the same exercise as the previous time.

Luckily it crashed for the last time: I’m returning it to Amazon. Goodbye guys.

As I wrote in your other thread update the watch to the latest beta firmware 9.97. They have solved this issue

I don’t think it is solved, even after version 11.0 of the firmware. See the recent post in the Instinct Solar forum...

Your issue is another one. AFAIK, you did not use any navigation, at least you did not mention it in the other thread. This specific issue discussed here, was caused by an unhandled exception during navigation, and it was indeed fixed in an earlier version.

However, it does not mean another unhandled exception is not there, or was not introduced later, and causing now crash in your Instinct Solar. Send the concerned FIT files to Garmin's Customer Support, so that they can investigate it.
