Data screens during coaching runs

Does anyone know of a guide (or can describe here) what screens display during runs with Garmin Coach?

I'm doing a 10k plan and, maybe like many others, can't read the screen while running and without my reading glasses. There are also maybe 3 kinds of beep.

I have not customised the screens.

  • I should clarify that by "can't read" I mean I can't study them closely enough to fully know what they are telling me. I can see the numbers, just not always sure what they mean and today I noticed a horizontal bar with three zones in it.

It would just be nice to have somewhere where all these data screens could be illustrated and described.

Maybe I should just pause more, bring my glasses and figure it out for myself! ;-)

  • I'm on 10k plan too. There are three additional screens to standard ones for running:

    1. Clock screen shows step distance and "eye" screen has countdown timer for current part of trainng

    2. and 3. Shows some information about current training plan phase (I tend to skip these). It's same information that you have in Garmin Connect.

Please note that information above is by memory.

  • Thanks MoHaX, I've discovered how to do screenshots now so here is one of a screen while I'm running, Not sure what the three segment bar is on the screen. Any ideas?

I think 5:36 is my average pace (sometimes it beeps and shows a pace in white on a black background which I think is is an update on my last km or recent pace I think).

I guess with a few more runs and screenshots, I might be able to creat a guide for everyone!  ;-)

  • Hello,
I am also a Garmin Connect 5km training program (we don't all start at the same level ;-))
But I never had access to the screen with the bar!
    Where did you find this?
Maybe by starting the training program by hand from the watch?
    Sincerely.

    Bonjour,
    Cordialement.

  • DJGShef I don't have such screen (no bar graph). Can you give more information about this screenshot?

    As:

    - which number of data screen is it

    - name of workout

    - on which week is it (I'm on 7-th week from 12 with 3 workouts per week)

  • kHanDaichi I also started with 5k training ;-)

  • Thank you for your support!
However, I really don't know how to find this screen...

    Merci pour tes encouragements!
Par contre je ne sais vraiment pas comment trouver cet écran...

  • I get this screen and don’t understand it. I’m wondering if the intent of the horizontal bar is to keep your cadence within the middle part, or heart rate, or pace. I just don’t know which.

The exact screen and its layout may depend on the training you selected, and depending on the goal of its respective stage. There are usually some instructions on GC Web, explaining what the purpose of the exercise is, and sometimes even some instructional videos. Its also worth of checking Youtube - there are many videos, both from Garmin, and from users, demonstrating the use of Garmin watches during a training.

That told, the screenshot shown above demonstrates the screen during a workout where you should keep your pace in given range. The bar shows you whether your current pace is too high or too low. The number is not the average pace during the exercise, it is the immediate pace. It is averaged over a shorter period of time, not over the entire step. I do not remember exactly, but I think it updates every 20 or 30 seconds, or something alike.

The step distance tells you the distance you've run in the current step of the exercise.

And the circle symbol right up shows the remaining time before the end of the exercise step. 5s before the step end there are 5 beeps and/or vibrations to remind you about the end of the step.

However, I really don't know how to find this screen...

This screen is available only when you started the selected training exercise on your watch, before the run. You can get to the screen then by scrolling down ad/or up (left midlle or bottom buttons). However, I believe by default it is already on the top when you started the training, if I remember well.

  • So glad I found this thread - it's been driving me nuts.

I'm doing a marathon training plan based on HR. Like the OP my reading eyesight is not great, but I know what the bar is for at least. It's showing when I'm in the correct HRZ for the workout.

The two screens I have no clue on are these:

STEP PC. -What does this mean (during workout)

    and

In cool down phase, what's STEP DIST and 1/2 - It would seem odd that it would use steps to measure distance since it's been using GPS for the main part of the workout.

Final question - is there ant way to edit the workout screen? It only appears for me if I am actually doing a workout
