Weather widget

Does anyone understand where the weather widget gets it’s data from? Beside accuracy the wind speed on my instinct has been '236 e' since I bought the watch.
As far as I know 236 knots wind has luckily never been measured before, making it safe to tell something is wrong with te registration of my watch...

Attached the Windfinder actuals and a picture of my watch/widget. (Grrrr also not working.... will try later)
  • This response from Garmin, which doesn't really solve the issue:

    Hi David,

It should be using the phone's weather provider and send you the same info as you would find on your phone originally.

    Kind regards,

  • I have been having this same problem with weather not getting updated, especially current temperature being off up to 10 degrees. So today I finally fixed this issue and this information is not listed anywhere on the Garmin site. This is with IOS iphone only. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Connect and toggle to always on (mine was on). Then this is what they do not tell you...also go to Weather and toggle that app to always on and now working and updating finally!! This is the standard weather APP in IOS and must be on to track. Mine was off by default and only updated on rare occasions when the WiFi was turned on. Now it works always and with WiFi off.

  • I don't think this is consistent with support.garmin.com/.../

  • Update on fix.

Scratch that fix. It worked for the remainder of the day and updated several times and now it is back to needing to be force refreshed with either closing all apps including connect and re-starting connect or also sometimes starting the WiFi will get it updated. This really sucks in this day and age we cannot get the correct outdoor temp when that is so important to adding risk to activities. I had a $40.00 Fitbit knockoff clone that captured weather data better than my $300.00 Garmin!!!! RRRRRRR!!!!!!

  • Further update - which only addresses how Garmin Connect attaches the weather data for an activity to that activity in Garmin Connect. I will keep pressing them as even if Garmin is speaking to local weather stations such as at airports, these facilities are not providing the hourly and 4 day forecasts as seen on the watch.. surely?

    Hi David,

When activities are uploaded into Garmin Connect, the weather information during the activity will appear on the activity's Details page. The weather data is captured at the time of when the activity is started.

The closest official weather station to your starting point will be where the weather information is collected. For the most part, local airports will be the official weather stations.

    Kind regards,

    Chris

So we should just be happy with a feature that is not working? They should not include a feature that is not working

You might not need the wind direction, but it is important to other people.

I have the same wind related issues. The wind direction is wrong most of the time.

Yes the watch gets the information from the phone that gets the data from some weather provider, but if all location services is enabled and data connection is available, and the app has all the privileges it requires and the watch is connected to the phone and the data is still incorrect - then Garmin has to sort out where Connect gets the data from.

The problem might not be with the watch, but it is with them or where they get the data from and it is for them to fix it.

Do not stop complaining about this. Hopefully if enough people complain they will do something about it.

  • We released Garmin Connect Mobile version 4.23 to address and fix this issue. Please go into your app store and update your Garmin Connect Mobile app.
