Weather widget

Does anyone understand where the weather widget gets it’s data from? Beside accuracy the wind speed on my instinct has been '236 e' since I bought the watch.
As far as I know 236 knots wind has luckily never been measured before, making it safe to tell something is wrong with te registration of my watch...

Attached the Windfinder actuals and a picture of my watch/widget. (Grrrr also not working.... will try later)
  • The weather widget draws its information from the weather stations/cell towers around you. That’s why it doesn’t work (weather widget) when it’s not connected to your phone.
  • I think I saw a note about a bug (for certain regional locations) in Garmin Connect Mobile app that results in very high winds like you are seeing. The watch gets its weather data from that app, so keep an eye out for an update there.
  • Thanks for the responses. I understood this is internet data and thus should come from a connected device. My watch is connected to my iPhone Odie21.
I will keep an eye out for connect updates (though I always automatically update asap).

Still wonder where the Connect App is using as a source for getting it's data... Anyone knows?

The only two 10 minute intervals that the weather app has NOT had a wind speed of 236km/h have been when I’ve walked away from my phone (causing it to unpair). It can’t be the due to whichever tower it’s getting info from because my phone (and consequently the watch) connects to different towers as I drive around the City of Toronto. The phone itself has correct wind speeds.

They told me it’s my phone’s fault, without investigating, easy cop-out. I considered getting the watch replaced with no guarantee it wouldn’t have the same issue.

What might fix this bug? Enough bad press to make them care to look into it?

Garmin is lazy and arrogant . They roll out new products into the market with comparable quality to that of a ninth grader’s first attempt at essay writing. They do not care to make sure their customers receive products that are functioning, nor do they try to solve glitches. The smugness and lack of accountability is a big turn off. Im quite disappointed.

  • Sorry dude, but if you’re going to call Garmin lazy and arrogant because you’ve had a few errors in your “Wind Speed & Direction”, then quite frankly no other company will EVER make you happy.

You paid $299 USD for a kick ass watch in the Instinct, be happy and stop complaining because your wind direction is off.....Rolling eyes

    Android or Apple phone?

I don't normally use the smart functions of my watch but this morning I added the weather widget and had the watch connected all day until I got home. I checked the weather screen 5 different times today and did a screen shot each time, as you will see below.

    7:02 AM   9:38 AM 11:14 AM

    1:04 PM 3:21 PM

I agree with Odie21, probably your phone.

    Yeah, weather widget sucks. Hard.

  • I suppose one way of putting it is that the weather widget is simply a widget that displays the weather as received by your phone. The watch is entirely passive in the whole process, other than receiving and displaying what it is given (like a tide app would).

BTW, how do people do these lovely screen shots of their watches?

I setup a Hot Key combo of BACK and UP for Screenshot. This can be found under Settings>System>Hot Keys

  • Hello there!! Can anyone answer this question? --- Where does Garmin Connect get its weather data from? The BBC, Foreca, the Met Office? With this information, we could perhaps begin to understand the issue here.
