Garmin keeps switching off?

When running, garmin switches off, esp at mile 1 and 3. Battery at 15 days.

  • Hi, I mean since the last update version, done on 16feb25, the vibration I knew about it, and shut it down since a long time, so it's absolutely not that. Last weekend; I was out under the sun; looks like the solar charging was not working, no stripe indication on my watch (more than 3 hours under the sun). Since yesterday, the watch keep switching off while launching an activity, was out for a run, after 10min, the watch switch off, and impossible to turn it on again. Back home, i put into the charger and was able to turn it on. Today, again out for a run; I could launch the activity, but when i finished it; pressing the stop button; the watch turned off, i could turn it on again, and was able to save my activity. Then went to work cycling, same things happened. Now I just did a reset, keeping my data, via the watch face, and then while setting up the widgets on the watch, think I was on the pulse OX, it switched off again. I notice that this make the watch turned off. Where is the issue here, the battery? the software ?

  • You are probably on the wrong forum. This one is for Instinct Solar (1st generation), and the last firmware is Instinct Solar System Software 19.10 released on January 18th 2024.

  • My watch is an instinct solar 1, not surf, not 2, but the software version is 19.10

  • As I wrote - v19.10 was released more than a year ago (Jan 2024), so it is unlikely to be the culprit. All I can recommend in your case is the master reset to factory defaults. If it does not help, reach out to the Product Support, but I am not quite sure they can help you more than that.

  • ok, thanls for the info concerning the release of the software version, and as you say, not sure product support can help; going along the forum; it looks like it's always the same story for Troubleshooting, factory reset, soft reset, not quiet helpful. But thanks for helping out, any idea why the pulse OX automatically push the watch to turn off ?

  • why the pulse OX automatically push the watch to turn off

PulseOx consumes a lot of power, so if the battery is already weak, its voltage can drop under the critical level, under the higher current load.

  • which is weird, cause when you switch it back on, the level of the battery remains the same. I've read there's data stored in the watch, is it true, and if it's the case, is there any way to delete or save somewhere else those datas ?

  • Which type of data are you looking for? You can see practically all data from the watch in Garmin Connect.

  • Was wondering if the data like history activity, may cause the watch to switch off. But it does not seem the case. I had no issue before, and it looks like since a certain update of the software, this has cause a lot of trouble. It's very frustrating cause you can find why, where or what makes the watch to crash.

  • As I wrote multiple times, the last software update for Instinct 1st gen was more than a year ago. If you saw any other updates recently, it was nothing else than updated time zone table, or something similar.

Writing some data to the storage could perhaps cause a crash if the storage was damaged, or full (though normally it should rather just trigger an error). If you did not clean up the folder //GARMIN/Activity/ recently, then I recommend deleting all files from it, to free up some space on the storage.
